ضربت شبه جزيرة كامتشاتكا في أقصى شرق روسيا موجة برد قارسة وعاصفة ثلجية استثنائية منذ بداية يناير، وُصفت بأنها الأشد منذ ثلاثة عقود، ما أدى إلى شلل شبه كامل في الحياة اليومية بالعاصمة الإقليمية بيتروبافلوفسك كامتشاتسكي.

شوارع تتحول إلى أنفاق
تحولت شوارع المدينة إلى أنفاق بيضاء ضيقة، واضطر السكان إلى حفر ممرات وسط الثلوج للوصول إلى منازلهم أو الخروج منها، فيما لجأ بعضهم إلى الخروج عبر النوافذ في الطوابق الأرضية أو الأولى.
سيارات مدفونة وإسعاف متعطل
وأظهرت مقاطع فيديو سيارات مدفونة بالكامل تحت طبقات كثيفة من الثلوج، حيث بحث المواطنون عنها باستخدام المجارف أو يدوياً، بينما اضطرت سيارات الإسعاف في بعض الحالات إلى نقل المرضى على الزلاجات أو باليد بسبب صعوبة الوصول بالمركبات.
طوارئ وإغلاقات
وأغلقت السلطات الروسية المدارس، وأوقفت حركة النقل العام، وأعلنت حالة الطوارئ في المدينة بعد وفاة شخصين على الأقل جراء سقوط كتل ثلجية من أسطح المباني.
أسباب العاصفة
وأرجع خبراء الأرصاد الجوية الظاهرة إلى سلسلة منخفضات جوية قوية تشكلت في بحر أوخوتسك، حيث سُجلت كميات هطول بلغت 39 مليمتراً خلال أقل من 24 ساعة، ما يعادل 60% من متوسط الهطول الشهري، مع رياح عاتية وصلت سرعتها إلى نحو 137 كيلومتراً في الساعة.

Meteorological experts attributed the phenomenon to a series of strong low-pressure systems formed in the Sea of Okhotsk, where precipitation amounts reached 39 millimeters in less than 24 hours, equivalent to 60% of the monthly average, with fierce winds reaching speeds of about 137 kilometers per hour.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located between the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, characterized by a harsh climate and ongoing volcanic and seismic activity.
