The U.S. Air Force has announced the adoption of a new paint design for its fleet of aircraft designated for transporting VIPs, including the new generation of presidential aircraft (VC-25B), featuring colors of red, white, dark blue, and gold. The Air Force confirmed in an official statement that the new look will be applied to the two newly modified Boeing 747-8i aircraft scheduled for delivery as the main presidential aircraft in 2027-2028, as well as the Boeing 747-8i donated by Qatar, which is part of the reserve fleet, and other aircraft in the executive transport fleet such as the C-32, which is often used as "Air Force Two". Images have already emerged of the C-32 painted in a white upper section and dark blue lower section, with red and gold accent lines, along with a large American flag on the tail, a design that matches the renderings published by President Donald Trump during his first term in 2019. President Trump proposed in 2018-2019 to change the colors of the presidential aircraft to bolder colors of "red, white, dark blue," partially inspired by his private plane "Trump Force One," but the plan was canceled in 2022 after the Air Force determined that the darker colors could cause excessive heating of the aircraft, affecting the cooling systems and the paint itself. During President Joe Biden's administration, a design was chosen that maintains the classic spirit with a slight update to the blue, but with Trump's return to the White House in January 2025, the issue was reopened, and the modified version that adds gold as a distinctive element was approved, along with engineering solutions to the previous heat problem. The announcement comes amid a broader campaign to instill a "strong American character" in official symbols, as sources in the White House indicated that the president sees the new colors as a better expression of "national pride and strength."
