أعلن الظهير الأيمن الإنجليزي كايل ووكر اعتزاله اللعب دولياً، قبل نحو 3 أشهر فقط من انطلاق بطولة كأس العالم 2026، المقرر إقامتها في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا والمكسيك. وغاب لاعب مانشستر سيتي السابق وبيرنلي الحالي عن منتخب إنجلترا منذ يونيو الماضي، وذلك بعد خسارة مباراة ودية أمام السنغال، ليقرر بعدها الاعتزال الدولي عقب خروجه من حسابات المدرب توماس توخيل. وكتب ووكر عبر حسابه على موقع «إنستغرام»: «بعد أكثر من عقد من تمثيل بلادي، قررتُ اعتزال اللعب الدولي، لطالما كان اللعب لمنتخب إنجلترا شرفاً عظيماً في مسيرتي، وسأظل فخوراً به دائماً». وأضاف: «شكراً لكل زميل ومدرب وإداري، ولكل من ساهم في هذه الرحلة، ولكل من كان يعمل خلف الكواليس، كل هتاف من الجماهير كان دافعاً قوياً، وأتطلع الآن للانضمام إليهم لتشجيع اللاعبين في كأس العالم». وختم قائلاً: «ستبقى ذكريات ارتداء قميص إنجلترا محفورة في ذاكرتي إلى الأبد، كما أود أن أشكر عائلتي على دعمهم لي في كل خطوة، لقد جعلوا هذه الرحلة أكثر تميزاً، وسأظل ممتناً لمشاركتها معهم». أرقام ووكر مع منتخب إنجلترا وخاض كايل ووكر 96 مباراة دولية بقميص المنتخب الإنجليزي، سجل خلالها هدفاً واحداً خلال مسيرته الدولية، بحسب موقع «ترانسفير ماركت».
