Vinicius equalized with a penalty in the 52nd minute, awarded after David Hancko's reckless challenge on Brahim Diaz. Federico Valverde capitalized on a mistake from José María Giménez three minutes later to make it 2-1 for Real Madrid.
Nahuel Molina silenced the Santiago Bernabéu crowd after scoring with a thunderous shot from 30 meters in the 66th minute, but Vinicius restored Real Madrid's lead with a brilliant individual effort six minutes later.
