أعلن الاتحاد الإيطالي لكرة القدم، اليوم (الجمعة)، رحيل جينارو غاتوزو عن تدريب المنتخب الأول، عقب فشل التأهل إلى بطولة كأس العالم 2026.
وخسر منتخب إيطاليا أمام البوسنة والهرسك بركلات الجزاء الترجيحية في نهائي الملحق الأوروبي المؤهل إلى نهائيات مونديال 2026، الثلاثاء الماضي، ليفشل بذلك في بلوغ النهائيات للمرة الثالثة على التوالي.
وأوضح الاتحاد الإيطالي في بيان عبر موقعه الإلكتروني، أنه أنهى تعاقده مع غاتوزو بالتراضي، مقدماً له الشكر ولطاقمه التدريبي على تفانيهم وإخلاصهم وشغفهم خلال الأشهر التسعة الماضية.

وقال غاتوزو عقب إنهاء العقد: «بقلبٍ مثقل، وبعد فشلي في تحقيق الهدف الذي وضعناه لأنفسنا، أعتبر فترة تدريبي للمنتخب الوطني قد انتهت».
وأضاف: «قميص إيطاليا هو أثمن ما نملك في عالم كرة القدم، ولذلك من الصواب تسهيل التقييمات الفنية المستقبلية منذ البداية، أود أن أشكر الرئيس غابرييل غرافينا وجيانلويجي بوفون، إلى جانب جميع موظفي الاتحاد، على ثقتهم ودعمهم الدائمين لي».
وختم حديثه قائلاً: «لقد كان شرفاً لي أن أقود المنتخب الوطني، وأن أفعل ذلك مع مجموعة من اللاعبين الذين أظهروا التزاماً وتفانياً تجاه القميص، لكن الشكر الأكبر يعود للجماهير، لجميع الإيطاليين الذين لم يتوانوا عن إظهار حبهم ودعمهم للمنتخب الوطني طوال هذه الأشهر. سيبقى الأزوري دائماً في قلبي».
The Italian Football Federation announced today (Friday) the departure of Gennaro Gattuso from coaching the national team, following the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The Italian national team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a penalty shootout in the final of the European playoff for the 2026 World Cup finals last Tuesday, thus failing to reach the finals for the third consecutive time.
The Italian Federation clarified in a statement on its website that it has mutually agreed to terminate Gattuso's contract, thanking him and his coaching staff for their dedication, loyalty, and passion over the past nine months.
Gattuso's Message
Gattuso said after the contract was terminated: "With a heavy heart, and after failing to achieve the goal we set for ourselves, I consider my time as the national team coach to be over."
He added: "The Italy shirt is the most precious thing we have in the world of football, and therefore it is right to facilitate future technical evaluations from the outset. I would like to thank President Gabriele Gravina and Gianluigi Buffon, along with all the federation staff, for their constant trust and support in me."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "It has been an honor for me to lead the national team, and to do so with a group of players who have shown commitment and dedication to the shirt, but the biggest thanks goes to the fans, to all Italians who have never hesitated to show their love and support for the national team throughout these months. The Azzurri will always remain in my heart."
