حقق البروفيسور المشارك في الأحياء الجزيئية والتقنية الحيوية عبدالمجيد فهد الرفاعي إنجازاً علمياً عالمياً بمشاركته ضمن فريق سعودي دولي نجح في قراءة الشفرات الوراثية الكاملة لجينوم صقري الشاهين الجبلي والوركي المستوطنين في المملكة والمهددين بالانقراض.

ويُعد هذا العمل الأول من نوعه محلياً، حيث تم إيداع البيانات الجينومية في بنك الجينات العالمي المركز الوطني لمعلومات التقانة الحيوية (NCBI)، ونشر النتائج في مجلة علمية محكمة، بما يتيح للباحثين الاستفادة منها في مجالات الوراثة وحماية الحياة الفطرية.

ويعكس الإنجاز التقدم المتسارع للمملكة في مجالات التقنية الحيوية وأبحاث الجينوم، ويدعم جهود حماية التنوع الحيوي وتطوير برامج الحفاظ على الأنواع المهددة بالانقراض.

Professor Abdulmajid Fahd Al-Rifai, an associate professor in molecular biology and biotechnology, has achieved a global scientific milestone by participating in an international Saudi team that successfully decoded the complete genetic sequences of the mountain and rock falcon genomes native to the Kingdom and threatened with extinction.

This work is the first of its kind locally, as the genomic data has been deposited in the global gene bank, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and the results have been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, allowing researchers to benefit from it in the fields of genetics and wildlife conservation.

The achievement reflects the Kingdom's accelerated progress in biotechnology and genome research, supporting efforts to protect biodiversity and develop programs for the conservation of endangered species.
