يدخل المنتخب السعودي نهائيات بطولة كأس العالم 2026 لكرة القدم التي تستضيفها كل من الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك خلال الفترة من 11 يونيو إلى 19 يوليو القادم بطموحات متجددة في البطولة الأكبر التي ستشهد للمرة الأولى مشاركة 48 منتخباً، ويحلم السعوديون بتكرار إنجاز جيل 1994 الذي تألق في مونديال الولايات المتحدة خلال المشاركة الأولى، عندما يبدأ المنتخب مشواره في النسخة القادمة، ضمن المجموعة الثامنة التي تضم إلى جانبه منتخبات إسبانيا، وأوروغواي والرأس الأخضر.
مواجهة أوروغواي
يستهل المنتخب السعودي مبارياته في دور المجموعات بمواجهة أوروغواي على ملعب ميامي بتاريخ 15 يونيو، قبل أن يلتقي المنتخب الإسباني على استاد أتلانتا بتاريخ 21 من الشهر ذاته، ثم يختتم مشواره بلقاء الرأس الأخضر على استاد هيوستن في 26 يونيو.
ويعقد المنتخب السعودي آمالاً كبيرة على المدرب اليوناني جورجيوس دونيس، البالغ من العمر 56 عاما، الذي تولى تدريب المنتخب خلفاً للفرنسي هيرفي رينارد في 23 أبريل الماضي.

ويعد محمد الدعيع الاسم الأبرز في سجل مشاركات المنتخب السعودي بكأس العالم، إذ يعتبر أكثر اللاعبين تمثيلًا للمنتخب في النهائيات برصيد 10 مباريات موزعة على نسخ 1994 و1998 و2002، فيما يبرز سامي الجابر الذي شارك في أربع نسخ متتالية (1994، 1998، 2002، 2006)، كأحد رموز الاستمرارية في تاريخ المنتخب، جامعاً بين الخبرة والقيادة، ومشاركاً في تسع مباريات في النهائيات، وهو نفس رقم عدد مباريات حسين عبد الغني، الذي بدأ مشواره المونديالي في فرنسا 1998، وواصل حضوره المميز في نسختي 2002 و2006.
