The Pakistan Meteorological Department and Geological Survey stated in a statement that the earthquake's epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush region at a depth of 215 kilometers below the earth's surface. The Hindu Kush region is considered one of the most seismically active areas in the region due to its proximity to the convergence point of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, as the movement of the Indian plate northward beneath the Eurasian plate leads to recurring earthquakes of varying intensity and impact depending on the depth of the quake.
