بعض الأرقام الإحصائية يصعب فهمها، ربما بسبب غموض معاييرها، ما يجعلها عرضة للتأويل أو يثير الشكوك حول كيفية الوصول لنتائجها، مثال ذلك ما أعلنته رابطة الدوري السعودي عن نسب المشاهدات التلفزيونية، وهي أرقام أثارت بالفعل جدلاً واسعاً، لكن ما لفت انتباهي لكتابة هذا المقال هو ما نُشر عن الهيئة العامة للإحصاء، من أن 75.3% من سكان المملكة زاروا فعاليات ثقافية خلال عام 2025 !
فهل فعلاً زارت هذه النسبة المرتفعة من السكان فعاليات ثقافية خلال العام الماضي؟! من المهم أن نعرف معايير احتساب هذه الزيارات؛ لأن نسبة بهذا الحجم تبدو غير مقنعة ما لم تكن منهجية القياس واضحة، حتى إن البعض تندّر في المجالس: إنهم يحتسبون حتى من يمرون بسياراتهم أمام مواقع هذه الفعاليات! وهذا بالطبع تعليق ساخر؛ لأنني أتوقع أن لدى الهيئة منهجية إحصائية احترافية ودقيقة، لكن ما دامت هذه المعايير غير واضحة بالنسبة لي، فإنني أجد صعوبة في تصديق أن 75.3% من السكان زاروا فعاليات ثقافية !
من المهم أن تدرك كل جهة تُصدر أرقاماً إحصائية، أن بعض النتائج المعلنة تثير تساؤلات مشروعة حول منهجية احتسابها، وهذا يشمل أيضاً الأرقام السياحية والاقتصادية والتجارية التي تتصدّر الأخبار بصورة دورية، وفي عالم الإحصاء، تُعد الثقة أساساً للاعتماد على النتائج، خاصة عندما تتصل باتخاذ قرارات تجارية أو استثمارية، أو في إعداد الدراسات والتحليلات البحثية والإعلامية !
باختصار.. في الإحصاءات، من المهم تبديد أي شكوك بأن هناك تطويعاً للأرقام أو معايير احتسابها لبناء هذه الثقة وتعزيزها !

However, what caught my attention to write this article was what was published by the General Authority for Statistics, stating that 75.3% of the Kingdom's population attended cultural events during the year 2025!
So did this high percentage of the population really attend cultural events last year?! It is important to know the criteria for calculating these visits; because a percentage of this size seems unconvincing unless the measurement methodology is clear. Some even joked in gatherings: they count even those who pass by in their cars in front of the locations of these events! This, of course, is a sarcastic comment; because I expect that the authority has a professional and accurate statistical methodology. However, as long as these criteria are unclear to me, I find it difficult to believe that 75.3% of the population attended cultural events!
It is important for every entity that issues statistical figures to realize that some announced results raise legitimate questions about the methodology of their calculation. This also includes tourism, economic, and commercial figures that regularly make headlines. In the world of statistics, trust is fundamental to relying on results, especially when it comes to making business or investment decisions, or in preparing research and media studies and analyses!
In short.. in statistics, it is important to dispel any doubts that there is manipulation of numbers or their calculation criteria to build and enhance this trust!
