أعلنت الشرطة التايلندية، اليوم (الخميس)، مقتل ثمانية رهبان بوذيين وإصابة أكثر من عشرة آخرين بجروح، إثر اصطدام طفل يقود شاحنة تعود لوالديه بموكب ديني في شمال شرقي البلاد. وذكرت الشرطة أن الموكب كان يضم 35 راهباً وخمسة من أتباع الديانة البوذية، وكان يسير على أحد الطرق في مقاطعة موكداهان ضمن رحلة حج عندما وقعت الحادثة، مشيرة إلى أن المسؤول عن الحادثة طفل يبلغ من العمر 11 عاماً. وأفادت بأن خمسة رهبان لقوا مصرعهم على الفور، فيما توفي ثلاثة آخرون لاحقاً في المستشفى، بينما لا يزال عشرة مصابين يتلقون العلاج. وأوضحت أن الطفل قاد شاحنة والديه من دون إذن، قبل أن يفقد السيطرة عليها ويصدم الرهبان. وأضافت أن الرهبان الذين نجوا أخبروا الشرطة بأنهم شاهدوا المركبة تفقد توازنها قبل أن تنحرف عن الطريق وتصطدم بهم، لافتة إلى أن السلطات صادرت الشاحنة لإخضاعها لفحص فني يهدف إلى تحديد أسباب الحادثة. كما استدعت الشرطة والدي الطفل لتحديد المسؤول عن الإشراف على الشاحنة، تمهيداً لاتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية اللازمة. وأظهرت لقطات كاميرات المراقبة التي نشرتها رابطة الإنقاذ المحلية الرهبان وهم يسيرون في صف واحد على جانب الطريق، قبل أن تصطدم بهم الشاحنة. The Thai police announced today (Thursday) the death of eight Buddhist monks and injuries to more than ten others after a child driving a truck belonging to his parents collided with a religious procession in the northeast of the country. The police reported that the procession included 35 monks and five followers of Buddhism, and was traveling on one of the roads in Mukdahan province as part of a pilgrimage when the incident occurred, noting that the person responsible for the incident is an 11-year-old child. They stated that five monks died instantly, while three others later died in the hospital, and ten injured individuals are still receiving treatment. They explained that the child drove his parents' truck without permission before losing control and hitting the monks. They added that the surviving monks told the police that they saw the vehicle lose its balance before veering off the road and colliding with them, pointing out that the authorities confiscated the truck for a technical inspection aimed at determining the causes of the incident. The police also summoned the child's parents to determine who was responsible for supervising the truck, in preparation for taking the necessary legal actions. Surveillance footage released by the local rescue association showed the monks walking in a single line along the side of the road before being struck by the truck.
