في حادثة كادت أن تنتهي بكارثة، نجت امرأة أمريكية من الموت بأعجوبة بعد سقوطها من ارتفاع شاهق أثناء تسلق أحد أخطر الجبال في ولاية كاليفورنيا، قبل أن تنجح فرق الإنقاذ في الوصول إليها وسط ظروف جوية بالغة الصعوبة.
وذكرت دائرة الغابات الأمريكية أن الحادثة وقعت أثناء صعود المرأة برفقة مجموعة من المتسلقين المبتدئين عبر أحد المسارات الشهيرة في الجبل، حيث فقدت توازنها عند ارتفاع نحو 12 ألف قدم، قبل أن تنزلق وتسقط إلى مستوى نحو 11,500 قدم.
وتلقت فرق البحث والإنقاذ البلاغ ظهر يوم الحادثة، لتبدأ على الفور عملية الإنقاذ بمشاركة حراس التسلق ودورية الطرق السريعة في كاليفورنيا. إلا أن الغيوم الكثيفة منعت مروحية الإنقاذ من الوصول إلى موقع المصابة، ما اضطر أحد رجال الإنقاذ إلى متابعة المهمة سيرًا على الأقدام.
وخلال العملية، ساعد أحد أفراد المجموعة في نقل معدات الإنقاذ، بينما بقي متسلق آخر كان موجودًا في المنطقة إلى جانب المصابة حتى وصول الفرق المختصة.
وأشارت السلطات إلى أن المرأة كانت في كامل وعيها وتمتعت بمعنويات جيدة رغم إصاباتها المتعددة، والتي شملت اشتباهًا بكسر في الكاحل الأيمن، إلى جانب إصابات أخرى ناجمة عن السقوط من ارتفاع كبير.
وبعد تثبيتها على نقالة مخصصة للإنقاذ في المناطق الوعرة، نُقلت إلى موقع آمن، قبل أن تتمكن مروحية الإسعاف من إجلائها إلى أحد المستشفيات لتلقي العلاج.
وفي أعقاب الحادثة، جددت دائرة الغابات الأمريكية تحذيراتها من المخاطر التي يشكلها جبل شاستا، مؤكدة أنه يُعد من أكثر مناطق التسلق تحديًا، بسبب التقلبات الجوية المفاجئة، والمنحدرات الثلجية، والانهيارات الصخرية التي قد تهدد حتى المتسلقين أصحاب الخبرة.
In an incident that nearly ended in disaster, an American woman miraculously survived after falling from a great height while climbing one of the most dangerous mountains in California, before rescue teams were able to reach her amid extremely difficult weather conditions.
The U.S. Forest Service reported that the incident occurred while the woman was climbing with a group of novice climbers along one of the mountain's famous trails, where she lost her balance at an elevation of about 12,000 feet, before slipping and falling to a level of approximately 11,500 feet.
Rescue teams received the report on the afternoon of the incident, immediately beginning the rescue operation with the participation of climbing rangers and the California Highway Patrol. However, thick clouds prevented the rescue helicopter from reaching the injured woman's location, forcing one of the rescuers to continue the mission on foot.
During the operation, one member of the group assisted in transporting rescue equipment, while another climber who was in the area stayed with the injured woman until the specialized teams arrived.
Authorities indicated that the woman was fully conscious and in good spirits despite her multiple injuries, which included a suspected fracture in her right ankle, along with other injuries resulting from the fall from a great height.
After securing her on a stretcher designed for rough terrain, she was transported to a safe location, before the ambulance helicopter was able to evacuate her to a hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the incident, the U.S. Forest Service renewed its warnings about the dangers posed by Mount Shasta, emphasizing that it is one of the most challenging climbing areas due to sudden weather changes, snowy slopes, and rockfalls that can threaten even experienced climbers.
