سجلت هيئة تطوير محمية الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز الملكية إنجازاً علمياً جديداً، بعد توثيق سلوك نادر يُعرف بـ«الافتراس الذاتي العكسي» لدى العلجوم العربي، في رصد يُعد الأول من نوعه في البيئة الطبيعية على مستوى المملكة والعالم، وفقاً لدراسة نُشرت في مجلة Herpetology Notes.

ورصد فريق الخبراء بالمحمية، خلال مسح ميداني، شراغيف صغيرة في مراحلها المبكرة وهي تهاجم فرداً أكبر وأكثر تقدماً في مرحلة التحول، في سلوك يخالف النمط البيولوجي المعروف الذي تهيمن فيه الأفراد الأكبر على الأصغر.

The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has recorded a new scientific achievement by documenting a rare behavior known as "reverse autophagy" in the Arabian toad, in what is considered the first observation of its kind in the natural environment at both the national and global levels, according to a study published in the journal Herpetology Notes.
Scientific Contribution
A team of experts at the reserve observed, during a field survey, small tadpoles in their early stages attacking a larger and more advanced individual in the metamorphosis stage, in a behavior that contradicts the known biological pattern where larger individuals dominate smaller ones.
This discovery represents a scientific addition that contributes to understanding the feeding behavior of amphibians and enhances the reserve's status in supporting environmental research and documenting biodiversity in the Kingdom.
