بعد أسبوع من الجدل حول الزيارة ونفي البيت الأبيض وجودها على جدول الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أعلن مكتب رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو، (الخميس)، تأجيل زيارته التي كانت مقررة إلى الولايات المتحدة الأسبوع القادم. وعزا المكتب أسباب التأجيل إلى تأجيل جنازة السيناتور الأمريكي الراحل ليندسي غراهام إلى نهاية يوليو، موضحاً أن البرنامج كان يتضمن إلى جانب حضور الجنازة أيضاً لقاء متوقعاً مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب. وكان من المقرر أن يغادر نتنياهو إلى واشنطن مساء (السبت)، بحسب ما ذكرته وسائل إعلام إسرائيلية. وأفادت صحيفة «جيوراسيلم بوست» بأن نتنياهو كان سيحضر مراسم تشييع غراهام، إلى جانب عقد اجتماع مع ترمب في البيت الأبيض، إلا أن الترتيبات تغيرت بعد تعديل موعد الجنازة، بحسب ما نقلته. ولم يحدد مكتب رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي موعداً جديداً للزيارة، كما لم يعلن البيت الأبيض عن أي جدول زمني بديل للقاء بين نتنياهو وترمب. وكان مسؤول في البيت الأبيض نفى (الثلاثاء) التقارير الصحفية الإسرائيلية التي تزعم بأن زيارة رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو إلى واشنطن ستكون الأسبوع القادم. ونقل موقع «أكسيوس» عن مسؤول في البيت الأبيض قوله: لا توجد زيارة لنتنياهو على جدول أعمال ترمب الأسبوع القادم. وكان السيناتور الجمهوري ليندسي غراهام قد توفي الأسبوع الماضي عن عمر ناهز 71 عاماً إثر أزمة صحية مفاجئة، مما أثار ردود فعل واسعة داخل الولايات المتحدة وخارجها. ويعد غراهام من أبرز الداعمين لإسرائيل داخل مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي، كما ارتبط بعلاقات وثيقة مع نتنياهو على مدى سنوات. ونعى نتنياهو السيناتور الراحل، واصفاً إياه بأنه «أحد أعظم أصدقاء إسرائيل»، مؤكداً أن البلدين فقدا شخصية لعبت دوراً بارزاً في تعزيز العلاقات الثنائية والدفاع عن أمن إسرائيل داخل المؤسسات الأمريكية. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham passed away last week at the age of 71 due to a sudden health crisis, prompting widespread reactions both within the United States and abroad. Graham was one of the most prominent supporters of Israel in the U.S. Senate and had maintained close relations with Netanyahu over the years.
