أكد لاعب المنتخب الإسباني فيران توريس صاحب هدف الفوز في مرمى الأرجنتين الذي على إثره تُوج منتخب بلاده بكأس العالم للمرة الثانية في تاريخه، أن هدفه كان «لـ47 مليون شخص، وليس لي ولا لزملائي اللاعبين».

وأضاف: «كان القدر مكتوباً أن نفوز بعيداً عن جماهيرنا، لكننا جعلناهم يشعرون بأنهم أقرب إلينا».

وأوضح توريس الذي اختير أفضل لاعب في المباراة النهائية رغم دخوله من مقاعد البدلاء: «تعرضت لانتقادات كثيرة خلال كأس العالم، لكن القدر مكتوب، وشكراً لله الذي يمنحني دائماً القوة للاستمرار».

واعترف المهاجم بصعوبة الفوز بالمباراة النهائية من أجل إضافة نجمة ثانية على قميص «لا روخا» وقال: «كل النهائيات صعبة، وعندما يكون ميسي في الفريق المنافس ينتابك ذلك التوتر، لكننا وثقنا دائماً بكرة القدم التي نقدمها وبأنفسنا».

Spanish national team player Ferran Torres, who scored the winning goal against Argentina that led his team to win the World Cup for the second time in its history, confirmed that his goal was "for 47 million people, not for me or my fellow players."

He added: "It was destined for us to win away from our fans, but we made them feel closer to us."

Torres, who was named the best player in the final despite coming off the bench, explained: "I faced a lot of criticism during the World Cup, but fate is written, and thanks to God who always gives me the strength to continue."

The striker admitted the difficulty of winning the final to add a second star to the "La Roja" jersey, saying: "All finals are tough, and when Messi is on the opposing team, you feel that tension, but we always trusted in the football we play and in ourselves."
