أعلنت وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية ناسا، السماح لروادها بحمل هواتفهم الذكية الشخصية إلى الفضاء لأول مرة، في خطوة تاريخية، بعد عقود من التقاط الصور بكاميرات متخصصة فقط.
وسيتم ترجمة هذه الموافقة، مع انطلاق بعثة كرو-12 إلى محطة الفضاء الدولية، في وقت لاحق من الأسبوع القادم، حيث سيسمح لروادها بحمل هواتفهم الذكية معهم إلى الفضاء.
وسيتمكن رواد الفضاء من استخدام أحدث هواتفهم، لالتقاط الصور وتسجيل الفيديوهات بشكل تلقائي وعفوي، ما يعني أن هذه الرحلات قد تصبح الأكثر توثيقاً في تاريخ ناسا، كما ستتيح للجمهور على الأرض مشاهدة تفاصيل لم يسبق لهم رؤيتها من قبل.
وقال جاريد إيزاكمان، مدير ناسا، في منشور عبر حسابه الرسمي بمنصة «إكس»: «نزود طواقمنا بالأدوات لالتقاط لحظات خاصة مع عائلاتهم، ومشاركة صور وفيديوهات ملهمة مع العالم أجمع، وتحدينا إجراءات كانت راسخة منذ عقود، واعتمدنا معدات حديثة لرحلات الفضاء وفق جدول زمني مسرع، وهذا الاستعداد التشغيلي سيساهم في تحقيق أقصى استفادة علمية وبحثية لنا في المدار وعلى سطح القمر».
وتعتمد ناسا حالياً في مهماتها على كاميرات متخصصة ودقيقة، ورغم حداثتها، إلا أن الهواتف الذكية تتيح مرونة وإبداعاً أكبر في التوثيق، حيث يتوقع لرواد الفضاء التقاط مشاهد من تحديات الجاذبية الصفرية، بالإضافة إلى صور سيلفي بانورامية داخل كبسولة الفضاء.
يُشار إلى أن اعتماد تقنيات جديدة لرحلات الفضاء يخضع لمعايير صارمة، إذ إن أي عطل بسيط قد يؤدي إلى عواقب كارثية، فيما لا تعد هذه المرة الأولى التي تصل فيها الهواتف الذكية إلى الفضاء، إذ سبق لشركة سبيس إكس أن سمحت لرواد الفضاء الخاصين باستخدامها خلال بعثاتهم.
The American space agency NASA has announced that it will allow its astronauts to bring their personal smartphones to space for the first time, in a historic move, after decades of capturing images with only specialized cameras.
This approval will be implemented with the launch of the Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station, later next week, where astronauts will be allowed to take their smartphones with them into space.
Astronauts will be able to use their latest phones to capture photos and record videos spontaneously and automatically, meaning that these missions may become the most documented in NASA's history, and will allow the public on Earth to see details they have never seen before.
Jared Isaacman, NASA's director, said in a post on his official account on the "X" platform: "We are equipping our crews with the tools to capture special moments with their families and share inspiring photos and videos with the world. We challenged procedures that have been in place for decades and adopted modern equipment for space missions on an accelerated timeline, and this operational readiness will contribute to maximizing our scientific and research benefits in orbit and on the lunar surface."
NASA currently relies on specialized and precise cameras for its missions, and despite their modernity, smartphones offer greater flexibility and creativity in documentation, as astronauts are expected to capture scenes from the challenges of zero gravity, in addition to panoramic selfies inside the spacecraft capsule.
It is worth noting that the adoption of new technologies for space missions is subject to strict standards, as any minor malfunction could lead to catastrophic consequences. This is not the first time that smartphones have reached space, as SpaceX previously allowed private astronauts to use them during their missions.
