يحق لأي مؤسسة حكومية أو غير حكومية السعي والعمل الجاد والحثيث في التميّز والإنتاج في برامجها المختلفة، وأن يسجل باسمها اختراعات وريادات جديدة في شتى مجالات المعرفة والعلوم، ونجد الكثير منها تعمل على أن تتوج برامجها ومؤتمراتها بنتائج جديدة تخدم المجتمعات البشرية، وفي المقام الأول تخدم محيطها المحلي في كافة المجالات، لكن هذا التسابق تداخل فيه الجدي والتجاري والدعائي، فكم قرأنا أرقاماً جديدة في موسوعة (غينيس) عن أكبر طبق بيتزا أو شاورما مثلاً، وقد يدخل مثل هذا الإنجاز البهجة على قراء مثل هذه الأخبار بعيداً عن مآسي الحروب والكوارث. في العقود الماضية كنا نقرأ تسابق العديد من الجامعات العربية والمحلية بوجودها كأفضل الجامعات بتلك المؤشرات، وقد كان لتلك الأرقام وترتيبها صولات واحتفالات من منسوبي تلك الجامعات، وقد خفت هذه الحمى كثيراً ولله الحمد.

قبل أيام احتضنت الرياض المنتدي السعودي للإعلام، وقد كان له حضور واضح في المشهد الإعلامي المحلي من وجوه عدة، فهو بالأساس منتدى إعلامي؛ أي لأصحاب مهنة الإعلام والصحافة بأشكالها المختلفة، ومن شارك فيه هم وجوه إعلامية عربية ومحلية لها حضورها ومتابعوها، فمن الطبيعي أن يكون المشهد المصاحب له ذا زخم كبير ليس بالضرورة أن يعكس نتائج ومخرجات يفترض أن تعالج وتشرح مواطن الخلل في الإعلام المحلي على الأقل، البعض يرى أن أغلب المشاركين وجوه متكررة، وأن الشللية متناثرة على بطاقات الدعوة لهذا المنتدى المهم، ولست ممن يرون أن المثالية يجب أن تكون حاضرة دائماً، لكن الشفافية والصراحة هي المشرط الحقيقي لتشخيص إشكالات إعلامنا المحلي والعربي.

عودة لأرقام (غينيس) في هذا المنتدى، التي كنت أتمنى أن تكون مثلاً في عدد الأبحاث الجادة في أوجه الإعلام المختلفة، أو على الأقل في إيجاد حلول لمشكلة الإعلام التقليدي خاصة الصحافة الورقية، التي بُحّت الأصوات بقرب موتها ونكتشف أهميتها وسطوتها في أوقات الأزمات الوطنية للدول «إنجاز غينيس» كان من حيث عدد الحضور في هذا المنتدى، وهو حق مشروع للمنظمين، لكنه إنجاز أقل ما يقال عنه إنه شكلي يتلاشى بعد أيام قليلة من انتهاء أعمال هذا الحدث.

Any governmental or non-governmental institution has the right to strive and work diligently and tirelessly towards excellence and production in its various programs, and to register in its name new inventions and initiatives in various fields of knowledge and science. we find many of them working to crown their programs and conferences with new results that serve human societies, primarily serving their local environment in all fields. However, this competition has intertwined seriousness with commercial and promotional aspects. How many times have we read new figures in the (Guinness) encyclopedia about the largest pizza or shawarma dish, for example? Such achievements can bring joy to readers of such news, far from the tragedies of wars and disasters. In past decades, we used to read about the competition among many Arab and local universities to be recognized as the best universities based on those indicators, and those numbers and their rankings had their own celebrations and fanfare from the staff of those universities. Thankfully, this frenzy has diminished significantly.

Recently, Riyadh hosted the Saudi Media Forum, which had a clear presence in the local media scene from various faces. It is essentially a media forum; that is, for media and journalism professionals in their various forms. Those who participated included Arab and local media figures who have their presence and followers. It is natural for the accompanying scene to have great momentum, which does not necessarily reflect results and outputs that should address and explain the flaws in local media at least. Some believe that most participants are recurring faces and that cliques are scattered across the invitation cards for this important forum. I am not one who believes that idealism should always be present, but transparency and honesty are the true scalpel for diagnosing the issues of our local and Arab media.

Returning to the (Guinness) figures at this forum, I had hoped they would reflect, for example, the number of serious research studies in various media aspects, or at least in finding solutions to the problem of traditional media, especially print journalism, which has been declared near extinction, yet we discover its importance and influence during national crises. The "Guinness achievement" was in terms of the number of attendees at this forum, which is a legitimate right for the organizers, but it is an achievement that can be described as superficial, fading away just a few days after the conclusion of this event.
