كشفت دراسة جديدة نشرتها مجلة «ذا لانسيت غلوبال هيلث» الطبية أن أكثر من 75 ألف فلسطيني قتلوا خلال أول 15 شهراً من الحرب الإسرائيلية على غزة، وهو رقم أعلى بكثير من الذي أعلنه مسؤولو الصحة بالقطاع والبالغ 49 ألفاً.

وحسب الدراسة، فإن النساء والأطفال وكبار السن شكلوا نحو 56.2 % من الوفيات، وهي نسبة تتوافق تقريبا مع التقارير الصادرة عن وزارة الصحة في القطاع.

ووفقا لمؤلفي الدراسة فإنها تمثل أول مسح سكاني مستقل للوفيات في قطاع غزة. وشمل المسح ألفي أسرة فلسطينية على مدى سبعة أيام بدأت في 30 ديسمبر 2024.

وكتب المؤلفون أن الأدلة مجتمعة تشير إلى أنه بحلول الخامس من يناير 2025، كان ما يتراوح بين 3 إلى 4 % من سكان قطاع غزة قد قتلوا نتيجة الحرب، وكان هناك عدد كبير من الوفيات غير المرتبطة بالعنف لكنها ناجمة عن الصراع بشكل غير مباشر.

وتفيد السلطات الصحية في غزة، التي لطالما اعتبرت الأمم المتحدة أن بياناتها موثوقة، أن أكثر من 72 ألف شخص قتلوا. وتشير تقديراتها إلى أن الآلاف لا يزالون تحت الأنقاض لكنها لا تضيف أعدادهم لبياناتها.

وتشكك إسرائيل في هذه الأرقام وتقول إن حماس تسيطر على الوزارة.

وقال باحثو مجلة لانسيت إن تحليلهم يتنافى مع ادعاءات تضخيم الأرقام ويظهر أن بيانات الوزارة متحفظة في ظل الظروف القاسية.

ووجد باحثون نشروا تحليلا إحصائيا العام الماضي في مجلة لانسيت الرائدة أن وزارة الصحة ربما قللت من عدد الوفيات بنحو 40 % خلال الأشهر التسعة الأولى من الحرب. ويبدو أن البحث الجديد الذي نشر يوم الأربعاء يشير إلى نقص في التقديرات بنفس الهامش.

وأوضح المؤلفون أن الاستطلاع هو الأول من نوعه حول الوفيات في غزة الذي لم يعتمد على السجلات الإدارية لوزارة الصحة. وقالوا إن الثقة في نتائجهم بشأن الوفيات المرتبطة بالعنف تصل إلى 95 %، وهي قيمة تشير إلى مدى دقة استطلاع الرأي في التقاط البيانات.

A new study published in the medical journal "The Lancet Global Health" revealed that more than 75,000 Palestinians were killed during the first 15 months of the Israeli war on Gaza, a figure much higher than the 49,000 reported by health officials in the sector.

According to the study, women, children, and the elderly accounted for about 56.2% of the deaths, a percentage that roughly aligns with reports issued by the Ministry of Health in the sector.

According to the authors of the study, it represents the first independent population survey of deaths in the Gaza Strip. The survey included 2,000 Palestinian families over a seven-day period starting on December 30, 2024.

The authors wrote that the combined evidence indicates that by January 5, 2025, between 3 to 4% of the population of the Gaza Strip had been killed as a result of the war, and there were a significant number of deaths not directly related to violence but caused indirectly by the conflict.

The health authorities in Gaza, which the United Nations has long considered reliable, report that more than 72,000 people have been killed. Their estimates suggest that thousands are still under the rubble, but they do not add their numbers to their data.

Israel questions these figures and claims that Hamas controls the ministry.

Researchers from The Lancet stated that their analysis contradicts claims of inflated numbers and shows that the ministry's data is conservative under the harsh conditions.

Researchers who published a statistical analysis last year in the leading journal Lancet found that the Ministry of Health may have underestimated the death toll by about 40% during the first nine months of the war. The new research published on Wednesday seems to indicate a shortfall in estimates by the same margin.

The authors clarified that the survey is the first of its kind regarding deaths in Gaza that did not rely on the administrative records of the Ministry of Health. They stated that the confidence in their results regarding violence-related deaths reaches 95%, a value that indicates the accuracy of the survey in capturing the data.
