حذر رئيس هيئة الأركان المشتركة الأمريكية الجنرال دان كين، الرئيس دونالد ترمب وكبار المسؤولين من أن شن حملة عسكرية ضد إيران قد ينطوي على مخاطر جسيمة، في مقدمتها احتمال التورط في «صراع طويل الأمد».
ونقل موقع «أكسيوس» الإخباري الأمريكي عن مصدرين مطلعين على المناقشات الداخلية قولهما إن «هناك نقاشاً مستمراً يدور في أعلى مستويات إدارة ترمب بشأن كيفية التعامل مع المواجهة مع إيران، وما قد يترتب على كل خيار من تداعيات».
وبحسب الموقع، فإن عدة أصوات داخل الدائرة المقربة من ترمب تحث على توخي الحذر في الوقت الراهن، رغم اعتقاد بعض المصادر أن الرئيس الأمريكي يميل إلى توجيه ضربة عسكرية.

The site noted that the central question is how to define "success" if military action is taken, and the extent of the risks associated with trying to achieve it. Conversely, reaching a nuclear agreement could likely mean retreating from some of the "red lines" previously set by Trump.
