وضع وزير الأشغال العامة والطرق المهندس حسين العقربي، اليوم (السبت)، حجر أساس المدينة الاقتصادية الجديدة في منطقة العلم على ساحل محافظة أبين، وذلك ضمن مشروع استثماري وتنموي يمتد على مساحة تقدر بنحو 96 مليون متر مربع، ويتضمن إنشاء قناة مائية بطول يزيد على 26 كيلومتراً، في خطوة تستهدف دعم البنية الاقتصادية وتعزيز فرص الاستثمار في المنطقة.
وجرى التدشين بحضور وزير الشباب والرياضة نايف البكري، والأمين العام للسلطة المحلية بمحافظة أبين مهدي الحامدي، وعدد من الوكلاء والقيادات السياسية والمدنية والأمنية والعسكرية والشخصيات الاجتماعية من محافظات أبين وعدن ولحج، إلى جانب نخبة من رجال الأعمال والمستثمرين والإعلاميين والصحفيين.
وأكد وزير الأشغال العامة والطرق في كلمة له، على أهمية المشروع في دعم مسارات التنمية العمرانية والاقتصادية، مشيراً إلى أن المدينة الاقتصادية تمثل إضافة نوعية لمشاريع البنية التحتية والاستثمار، لما تحمله من مقومات تخطيطية حديثة وفرص واعدة للنمو.
بدوره، أوضح الأمين العام للسلطة المحلية بمحافظة أبين مهدي الحامدي إن المدينة الاقتصادية تمثل خطوة إستراتيجية مهمة نحو تعزيز التنمية المحلية وتحريك عجلة الاقتصاد في المحافظة، مشيراً إلى أن السلطة المحلية ستذلل جميع الصعوبات للمدينة الاقتصادية؛ كون المشروع سيوفر فرص عمل جديدة ويحفز النشاط الاستثماري في مختلف القطاعات.
من جهته، أكد رئيس مجلس إدارة المدينة الاقتصادية الجديدة رجل الأعمال جابر بن شعيلة، أن المشروع يمثل منصة رائدة لدعم الاستثمارات وتحفيز القطاعات التجارية والصناعية والخدمية في المنطقة، فضلاً عن تعزيز النمو الاقتصادي وتوفير فرص العمل المتنوعة، مبيناً أن المدينة الاقتصادية ستفتح آفاقاً جديدة أمام رجال الأعمال والمستثمرين، وستسهم في جذب المشاريع المحلية والخارجية.
واستعرض المدير التنفيذي للمدينة الاقتصادية الجديدة، المخطط العام لاستخدامات الأرض، موضحاً أن المشروع صُمّم وفق رؤية متكاملة تراعي التنوع الوظيفي والاستدامة، ويضم مناطق اقتصادية وخدمية وترفيهية وسكنية متعددة إلى جانب مرافق حكومية واستثمارية ومعرفية، بما يهيئ بيئة حضرية متوازنة تدعم النشاط الاقتصادي وتستوعب النمو المستقبلي.
وقال إن المدينة ستستوعب نحو مليون نسمة، وتوفر أكثر من نصف مليون فرصة عمل مباشرة وغير مباشرة.
وتخلل الحفل عرض فيلم تعريفي استعرض مراحل المشروع ورؤيته المستقبلية ومكوناته الرئيسية، وسط إشادة الحاضرين بأهمية المشروع ودوره المتوقع في دعم التنمية الاقتصادية والعمرانية في محافظة أبين والمناطق المجاورة.
The Minister of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Hussein Al-Aqrobi, laid the foundation stone for the new economic city today (Saturday) in the Al-Alam area on the coast of Abyan Governorate. This is part of an investment and development project that spans an area estimated at about 96 million square meters and includes the construction of a waterway over 26 kilometers long, in a move aimed at supporting the economic infrastructure and enhancing investment opportunities in the region.
The inauguration was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Nayef Al-Bakri, the Secretary-General of the Local Authority in Abyan Governorate, Mahdi Al-Hamdi, and a number of agents, political, civil, security, and military leaders, as well as social figures from the governorates of Abyan, Aden, and Lahij, alongside a group of businessmen, investors, media personnel, and journalists.
The Minister of Public Works and Roads emphasized in his speech the importance of the project in supporting urban and economic development paths, pointing out that the economic city represents a qualitative addition to infrastructure and investment projects, due to its modern planning components and promising growth opportunities.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Local Authority in Abyan Governorate, Mahdi Al-Hamdi, explained that the economic city represents an important strategic step towards enhancing local development and stimulating the economy in the governorate, noting that the local authority will overcome all difficulties for the economic city, as the project will provide new job opportunities and stimulate investment activity in various sectors.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new economic city, businessman Jaber bin Sha'ila, confirmed that the project represents a pioneering platform to support investments and stimulate commercial, industrial, and service sectors in the region, in addition to enhancing economic growth and providing diverse job opportunities. He indicated that the economic city will open new horizons for businessmen and investors and will contribute to attracting local and foreign projects.
The Executive Director of the new economic city presented the general plan for land uses, explaining that the project was designed according to a comprehensive vision that considers functional diversity and sustainability. It includes multiple economic, service, recreational, and residential areas, along with government, investment, and knowledge facilities, creating a balanced urban environment that supports economic activity and accommodates future growth.
He stated that the city will accommodate about one million people and provide more than half a million direct and indirect job opportunities.
The ceremony included a presentation of an introductory film that showcased the project's stages, future vision, and main components, amidst the attendees' praise for the project's importance and its expected role in supporting economic and urban development in Abyan Governorate and the neighboring areas.
