أكد وزير الدفاع الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث أن «إيران أصبحت مكشوفة الآن»، مشدداً على أنه «لا يمكن لإيران أن تمتلك سلاحاً نووياً».

أمريكا من تضع الشروط

وأعلن في أول مؤتمر صحفي منذ اندلاع الحرب، اليوم الإثنين، أن «الحرب على إيران لم تستهدف تغيير النظام، لكن النظام قد تغير بالفعل». وقال هيغسيث إن «صواريخ إيران لم تعد تهديداً»، موضحاً أن «أمريكا هي من تضع شروط الحرب مع إيران».

وأشار وزير الدفاع إلى أن «المهمة الأمريكية في إيران هي تدمير صواريخها وبحريتها وحرمانها من حيازة أسلحة نووية».

ليست حربا بلا نهاية

وفي تلميح إلى قصر فترة الحرب، علق هيغسيث بأن «هذه ليست العراق، وليست حرباً بلا نهاية».

وكشف وزير الدفاع الأمريكي أن «إيران كانت تماطل أثناء المفاوضات»، مضيفاً أن «عملية إيران ستنطوي على خسائر بشرية».

ونفى أي احتمالات لتدخل بري أمريكي في إيران، ووصف عملية «الغضب الملحمي» الأمريكية ضد إيران بأنها «جوية».

وخلال المؤتمر الصحفي، أفصح رئيس هيئة الأركان المشتركة الأمريكية الجنرال دان كين عن قصف أكثر من 1000 هدف في إيران في أول 24 ساعة من الهجوم. وكشف دان «استهداف مواقع القيادة وإطلاق الصواريخ في بداية العملية»، موضحاً أن «القيادة السيبرانية شاركت بالعمليات ضد إيران».

وحول التصدي للهجمات الإيرانية التي طالت دول المنطقة، أكد وزير الدفاع الأمريكي «نشر ما يكفي من القدرات الدفاعية للتصدي لإيران»، فيما أعلن رئيس الأركان «اعتراض مئات الصواريخ» التي أطلقت تجاه القوات الأمريكية ودول المنطقة.

لا جدول زمنياً محدداً

ورفض المسؤولان تقديم جدول زمني واضح لانتهاء الحملة الجوية المشتركة مع إسرائيل، والتي وُصفت بأنها واحدة من أكبر العمليات العسكرية المنسقة بين البلدين.

وقال الجنرال كاين: «لتوضيح الأمر، هذه ليست عملية تنتهي خلال ليلة واحدة»، مضيفاً أن المهام الموكلة إلى القيادة المركزية الأمريكية والقوات المشتركة ستستغرق بعض الوقت لتحقيقها، وقد تكون في بعض الحالات صعبة ومعقدة.

وأشار إلى أن الولايات المتحدة تتوقع تكبد خسائر إضافية، مؤكداً أن الجهود مستمرة لتقليل الخسائر البشرية، وذلك عقب مقتل أربعة عسكريين أمريكيين خلال العمليات.

تصريحات ترمب وتباين الرسائل

وكان الرئيس ترمب قد صرّح في مقابلات إعلامية الأحد بأن الحرب قد تستمر نحو أربعة أسابيع، إلا أن وزير الدفاع رفض الالتزام بأي إطار زمني محدد، قائلاً إنه «لن يضع أبداً سقفاً زمنياً للعملية».

وأضاف هيغسيث أن للرئيس الحرية الكاملة في الحديث عن المدة المحتملة للعملية، سواء كانت أسبوعين أو أربعة أو حتى ستة أسابيع، موضحاً أن تطورات الميدان قد تعجّل أو تؤخر مسار الأحداث.

ليست حرباً بلا نهاية

وفي مستهل المؤتمر، سعى وزير الدفاع إلى طمأنة الرأي العام بالتأكيد على أن العملية الحالية تختلف عن التدخلات العسكرية الأمريكية السابقة في الشرق الأوسط، مشدداً على أنها لن تتحول إلى حرب لا تنتهي، في إشارة إلى تجارب الولايات المتحدة في العراق وأفغانستان.

ومن المقرر أن يمثل وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو وهيغسيث أمام الكونغرس، الثلاثاء، لإطلاع المشرعين على التقدم المحرز في العملية العسكرية ضد إيران، وفق ما أعلن البيت الأبيض.

وكان الديموقراطيون المعارضون اشتكوا من عدم استشارتهم قبل بدء العملية.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that "Iran is exposed now," emphasizing that "Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons."

America sets the conditions

In his first press conference since the outbreak of the war, on Monday, he announced that "the war on Iran is not aimed at regime change, but the regime has already changed." Hegseth stated that "Iran's missiles are no longer a threat," clarifying that "America is the one setting the terms of the war with Iran."

The Defense Secretary pointed out that "the American mission in Iran is to destroy its missiles and navy and deprive it of nuclear weapons."

Not a war without end

In a hint at the short duration of the war, Hegseth commented that "this is not Iraq, and it is not a war without end."

The U.S. Defense Secretary revealed that "Iran was stalling during negotiations," adding that "the operation in Iran will involve human losses."

He denied any possibilities of American ground intervention in Iran, describing the U.S. operation "Epic Fury" against Iran as "airborne."

During the press conference, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Keen revealed that over 1,000 targets in Iran were bombed in the first 24 hours of the attack. Dan disclosed "the targeting of command and missile launch sites at the beginning of the operation," explaining that "cyber command participated in operations against Iran."

Regarding countering Iranian attacks that targeted countries in the region, the U.S. Defense Secretary confirmed "the deployment of sufficient defensive capabilities to counter Iran," while the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs announced "the interception of hundreds of missiles" launched towards U.S. forces and countries in the region.

No specific timeline

The two officials refused to provide a clear timeline for the end of the joint air campaign with Israel, which has been described as one of the largest coordinated military operations between the two countries.

General Kane stated, "To clarify, this is not an operation that ends in one night," adding that the tasks assigned to U.S. Central Command and joint forces will take some time to achieve, and may be difficult and complex in some cases.

He noted that the United States expects to incur additional losses, affirming that efforts are ongoing to minimize human losses, following the deaths of four American military personnel during the operations.

Trump's statements and mixed messages

President Trump had stated in media interviews on Sunday that the war could last about four weeks, but the Defense Secretary refused to commit to any specific timeframe, saying he "would never set a timeline for the operation."

Hegseth added that the president has full freedom to discuss the potential duration of the operation, whether it be two weeks, four, or even six weeks, explaining that developments on the ground could accelerate or delay the course of events.

Not a war without end

At the beginning of the conference, the Defense Secretary sought to reassure public opinion by emphasizing that the current operation differs from previous U.S. military interventions in the Middle East, stressing that it will not turn into an endless war, in reference to the United States' experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Hegseth are scheduled to appear before Congress on Tuesday to brief lawmakers on the progress made in the military operation against Iran, according to the White House.

Opposing Democrats have complained about not being consulted before the operation began.
