كشفت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال» أن بعض مستشاري الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب يحثونه سرا على الإعلان عن خطة للخروج من حرب إيران.
ونقلت الصحيفة الأمريكية عن مصادر مطلعة قولها: إن هؤلاء المستشارين يدفعون ترمب لأن يوضح أن الجيش «حقق إلى حد كبير أهدافه من الحرب».
وفيما قدم المسؤولون الأمريكيون قوائم متباينة لأهداف الحرب، فإنها تتلخص عموما في تدمير برنامج الصواريخ الإيراني، وتدمير أسطولها البحري، ووقف دعم إيران لوكلائها الإقليميين، ومنعها من الحصول على سلاح نووي.
وحسب الصحيفة، فإن التقرير يتناغم مع تصريح الرئيس الأمريكي، أمس الإثنين، قال فيه إن «الحرب على إيران ستنتهي قريبا»، من دون أن يحدد موعدا لذلك، مشددا على أن الهجوم الأمريكي الإسرائيلي حقق أهدافه.
لكن المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت، نفت بشدة تقرير «وول ستريت جورنال».
وقالت ليفيت: «هذه القصة مليئة بالهراء من مصادر مجهولة، أؤكد لكم أنها ليست حاضرة مع الرئيس ترمب الذي يركز كبار مساعديه على مدار الساعة لضمان استمرار نجاح العملية العسكرية بشكل كبير، وسيُحدد القائد الأعلى للقوات المسلحة نهاية هذه العمليات في نهاية المطاف».
وفي ردها على التقرير، قالت ليفيت: «تؤيد الغالبية العظمى من الأمريكيين إنهاء التهديد الذي يشكله النظام الإيراني، وتؤيد قتل الإرهابيين، وهذا ما سيسعى الرئيس ترمب إلى تحقيقه».
وأفادت الصحيفة بأن بعض مساعدي ترمب حذروه من أن حربا طويلة الأمد ستؤثر سلبا على شعبيته، حتى وإن كان الجمهوريون يؤيدون في الوقت الراهن الضربات ضد إيران.
وأضافت أن المستشارين المعنيين تلقوا اتصالات من جمهوريين أعربوا عن قلقهم بشأن تأثير الحرب على انتخابات التجديد النصفي المقبلة.
ورأى مساعدو ترمب ضرورة وضع خطة إعلامية أكثر حزما لتسويق الحرب في ظل ارتفاع أسعار الوقود، وفقا للصحيفة.
وأظهرت استطلاعات الرأي أن أغلبية طفيفة من الأمريكيين تعارض الحرب، وتتوافق الآراء إلى حد كبير مع الانتماءات الحزبية.
ورغم قلق بعض مستشاريه، استبعد مسؤولون في الإدارة أن تنتهي الحرب طالما استمرت إيران في مهاجمة دول المنطقة، وطالما رغبت إسرائيل في مواصلة ضرب أهداف داخل إيران.
وأكد مسؤول رفيع لـ«وول ستريت جورنال»: «أن ترمب لن يتوقف عن القتال حتى يحقق نصرا مُرضيا، خصوصا مع تفوق الولايات المتحدة عسكريا».
The Wall Street Journal revealed that some advisors to President Donald Trump are secretly urging him to announce a plan to exit the war with Iran.
The American newspaper quoted informed sources as saying that these advisors are pushing Trump to clarify that the military has "largely achieved its war objectives."
While American officials have provided varying lists of war objectives, they generally boil down to destroying Iran's missile program, dismantling its naval fleet, stopping Iran's support for its regional proxies, and preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
According to the newspaper, the report aligns with the statement made by the American president on Monday, in which he said that "the war on Iran will end soon," without specifying a timeline, emphasizing that the American-Israeli attack has achieved its goals.
However, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt strongly denied the Wall Street Journal report.
Levitt stated, "This story is filled with nonsense from anonymous sources; I assure you it is not present with President Trump, who has his senior aides focused around the clock to ensure the military operation continues to succeed significantly, and the Commander-in-Chief will ultimately determine the end of these operations."
In her response to the report, Levitt said, "The vast majority of Americans support ending the threat posed by the Iranian regime and support killing terrorists, and that is what President Trump will seek to achieve."
The newspaper reported that some of Trump's aides warned him that a prolonged war would negatively impact his popularity, even though Republicans currently support strikes against Iran.
It added that the concerned advisors received calls from Republicans expressing their concerns about the war's impact on the upcoming midterm elections.
Trump's aides saw the necessity of establishing a firmer media plan to market the war amid rising fuel prices, according to the newspaper.
Polls have shown that a slight majority of Americans oppose the war, and opinions largely align with party affiliations.
Despite the concerns of some of his advisors, administration officials ruled out the possibility of ending the war as long as Iran continues to attack countries in the region and as long as Israel wishes to continue striking targets inside Iran.
A senior official told the Wall Street Journal: "Trump will not stop fighting until he achieves a satisfactory victory, especially with the United States having military superiority."
