أعلنت السلطات الفرنسية وفاة 4 مهاجرين أثناء محاولتهم عبور قناة «المانش» بشكل غير قانوني للوصول إلى بريطانيا.
وقال محافظ إقليم با-دو-كاليه فرانسوا-كزافييه لوش في بيان صحفي: «لقي رجلان وامرأتان مصرعهم بعد أن جرفتهم التيارات في منطقة إكويان-بلاج» الواقعة شمالي البلاد.
وأضاف أن شخصاً آخر تم التكفل به طبياً بعد إصابته بانخفاض حرارة الجسم، فيما تم إنقاذ 37 شخصاً آخرين.
من جانبها، أكدت المدعية العامة في بولون-سور-مير سيسيلي غريسييه أن الضحايا الـ4 بالغون، موضحة أن جنسياتهم لم تعرف على الفور، وأن القارب استمر في رحلته وعلى متنه نحو 30 شخصاً.
وكان مهاجران قد لقيا حتفهما في الأول من أبريل الجاري خلال إحدى محاولات العبور بالقرب من منطقة غرافلين شمال البلاد، لتكون هذه أولى وفيات المهاجرين في البحر على الحدود الفرنسية-البريطانية منذ بداية العام.

The Prefect of the Pas-de-Calais region, François-Xavier Looch, stated in a press release: "Two men and two women lost their lives after being swept away by the currents in the area of Équihen-Plage," located in the northern part of the country.
He added that another person was medically assisted after suffering from hypothermia, while 37 other individuals were rescued.
For her part, the public prosecutor in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Cécile Gréciet, confirmed that the 4 victims were adults, noting that their nationalities were not immediately known, and that the boat continued its journey with about 30 people on board.
Two migrants had previously died on April 1 during one of the crossing attempts near the area of Gravelines in the northern part of the country, marking the first migrant deaths at sea on the French-British border since the beginning of the year.
