نجح الفريق الطبي والجراحي للبرنامج السعودي للتوائم الملتصقة، اليوم، في إجراء عملية جراحية عاجلة لفصل توأم إناث ملتصق سعودي في مستشفى الملك عبدالله التخصصي للأطفال بمدينة الملك عبدالعزيز الطبية التابعة لوزارة الحرس الوطني في مدينة الرياض، وامتدت العملية إلى 6 مراحل واستغرقت 6 ساعات ونصف الساعة، بمشاركة 23 من الاستشاريين والأخصائيين والكوادر الفنية والتمريضية.
وأوضح المستشار بالديوان الملكي المشرف العام على مركز الملك سلمان للإغاثة والأعمال الإنسانية رئيس الفريق الطبي والجراحي التابع للبرنامج السعودي للتوائم الملتصقة الدكتور عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز الربيعة أن التوأم تبلغان من العمر نحو 20 يوماً، إذ ولدتا ملتصقتين في منطقة أسفل الصدر والبطن ولكل منهما أطراف علوية وسفلية مكتملة.
وأضاف أنه بعد اجتماع الفريق الطبي والجراحي أظهرت الفحوصات الطبية المتعددة أن وزن التوأم معاً يبلغ نحو 5 كيلوغرامات، وأنهما تشتركان في الكبد والمعدة والأمعاء، فضلاً عن وجود كيس خارجي في جدار البطن؛ بسبب عيب خلقي، يضغط بشكل كبير على المعدة؛ مما يصعب عملية تناول الطعام، مع نسبة خطورة في هذه العملية على حياة التوأم تبلغ 40%.
وأردف الدكتور عبدالله الربيعة أن هذه العملية تعد رقم 69 ضمن البرنامج السعودي للتوائم الملتصقة الذي استطاع منذ عام 1990م أن يعتني بـ157 توأماً من 28 دولة في 5 قارات حول العالم، مؤكداً دور المملكة الريادي في العمل الإنساني بشكل عام والطبي بشكل خاص.
ورفع باسمه ونيابة عن جميع أعضاء الفريق الطبي والجراحي أسمى آيات الشكر والعرفان إلى خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك سلمان بن عبدالعزيز، وولي العهد رئيس مجلس الوزراء الأمير محمد بن سلمان بن عبدالعزيز، على الدعم السخي الذي يحظى به البرنامج السعودي للتوائم الملتصقة، حتى أصبحت المملكة مركزاً عالمياً مميزاً في هذا المجال، كما تقدم بالشكر لأعضاء الفريق الطبي والجراحي على جهودهم التي كانت سبباً بعد توفيق الله في هذا الإنجاز الطبي الجديد الذي يسجّل لهذا الوطن العزيز.

The medical and surgical team of the Saudi program for conjoined twins successfully performed an urgent surgery today to separate a pair of conjoined female twins at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City, which is affiliated with the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh. The operation consisted of 6 stages and lasted for 6 and a half hours, involving 23 consultants, specialists, and technical and nursing staff.
The advisor at the Royal Court and general supervisor of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, who is also the head of the medical and surgical team of the Saudi program for conjoined twins, explained that the twins are approximately 20 days old, having been born conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen, with each having complete upper and lower limbs.
He added that after a meeting of the medical and surgical team, multiple medical examinations revealed that the combined weight of the twins is about 5 kilograms, and that they share a liver, stomach, and intestines, in addition to having an external sac in the abdominal wall due to a congenital defect, which significantly compresses the stomach, making it difficult for them to eat, with a 40% risk to their lives during this operation.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah further stated that this operation is the 69th within the Saudi program for conjoined twins, which has been able since 1990 to care for 157 pairs of twins from 28 countries across 5 continents around the world, affirming the Kingdom's pioneering role in humanitarian work in general and medical work in particular.
On behalf of himself and all members of the medical and surgical team, he expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, for the generous support received by the Saudi program for conjoined twins, which has made the Kingdom a distinguished global center in this field. He also thanked the members of the medical and surgical team for their efforts, which were a reason, after God's success, for this new medical achievement recorded for this beloved nation.
For their part, the family of the conjoined Saudi twins expressed their deep gratitude and thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his trustworthy Crown Prince for the high-level medical care that the twins received, appreciating the significant efforts made by the medical team to ensure the success of the operation and the safety of the two girls.
