لقي 21 شخصاً مصرعهم وأصيب عشرات آخرون في حادث مأساوي، بعد انقلاب حافلة ركاب من منحدر يبلغ عمقه نحو 100 قدم على طريق جبلي في إقليم جامو وكشمير الخاضع للإدارة الهندية، بحسب ما أفادت به السلطات المحلية ووسائل إعلام.
وقعت الحادثة في منطقة أودهامبور، أثناء سير الحافلة على طريق جبلي شديد الانحدار، وكانت تقل أكثر من 60 راكباً في رحلة من رامناغار إلى أودهامبور، وفق مسؤولين محليين.
وبحسب التقارير، اصطدمت الحافلة بمركبة ثلاثية العجلات أثناء منعطف حاد، ما أدى إلى فقدان السائق السيطرة عليها، وانحرافها عن الطريق قبل أن تسقط في وادٍ سحيق.
وأوضح المسؤول المدني بريم سينغ أن 19 شخصاً لقوا حتفهم في موقع الحادث على الفور، فيما توفي اثنان آخران لاحقاً في المستشفى متأثرين بإصاباتهما، وفق ما نقلته وكالة «أسوشيتد برس».
وأضاف سينغ أن عدد المصابين يراوح بين 29 و61 شخصاً حسب المصادر، مشيراً إلى أن بعض الجرحى في حالات حرجة ويتلقون الرعاية الطبية في مستشفيات محلية، لافتاً إلى أن من بين المصابين ركاباً كانوا داخل مركبة «توك توك» لحظة وقوع الحادث.
وقد هرعت فرق الإنقاذ إلى الموقع، بمساندة سكان محليين شاركوا في عمليات إسعاف الضحايا ونقلهم قبل وصول السلطات المختصة.
وفي تعليق رسمي، أعرب رئيس الوزراء الهندي ناريندرا مودي عن حزنه العميق للحادث، معلناً تقديم تعويضات مالية لأسر الضحايا بقيمة 200 ألف روبية، وللمصابين بقيمة 50 ألف روبية، معبّراً عن تعازيه وتمنياته بالشفاء العاجل للجرحى.
Twenty-one people lost their lives and dozens more were injured in a tragic incident after a passenger bus overturned from a height of about 100 feet on a mountainous road in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir, according to local authorities and media reports.
The incident occurred in the Udhampur area while the bus was traveling on a steep mountain road, carrying more than 60 passengers on a journey from Ramnagar to Udhampur, according to local officials.
Reports indicate that the bus collided with an auto-rickshaw during a sharp turn, leading the driver to lose control, veering off the road before falling into a deep gorge.
Civil official Prem Singh stated that 19 people died at the scene of the accident immediately, while two others later died in the hospital from their injuries, as reported by the Associated Press.
Singh added that the number of injured ranges between 29 and 61 according to sources, noting that some of the wounded are in critical condition and receiving medical care in local hospitals, pointing out that among the injured were passengers who were inside the "tuk-tuk" at the time of the accident.
Rescue teams rushed to the site, assisted by local residents who participated in the rescue operations and transporting the victims before the relevant authorities arrived.
In an official comment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, announcing financial compensation for the victims' families of 200,000 rupees, and for the injured of 50,000 rupees, conveying his condolences and wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.
