استدعت الحكومة البريطانية القائم بالأعمال الإسرائيلي في لندن، على خلفية موجة غضب دولية متصاعدة بسبب مقطع فيديو نشره وزير الأمن القومي الإسرائيلي إيتمار بن غفير، ظهر فيه وهو يسخر من ناشطين مؤيدين لغزة جرى احتجازهم بعد اعتراض البحرية الإسرائيلية لأسطول كان متجهاً إلى القطاع المحاصر.
وجاء التحرك البريطاني بالتزامن مع بدء السلطات الإسرائيلية الإفراج عن مئات الناشطين الذين شاركوا في محاولة كسر الحصار البحري المفروض على غزة، تمهيداً لترحيلهم إلى بلدانهم، بحسب منظمة قانونية تتابع ملف المشاركين في الأسطول.
وأثار الفيديو، الذي أظهر ناشطين مكبلين بالأصفاد وراكعين أثناء تعرضهم للسخرية من الوزير الإسرائيلي اليميني المتطرف، إدانات واسعة من عدة دول أوروبية ومنظمات حقوقية.
وقال وزير الخارجية الإيطالي أنطونيو تاياني إنه طلب من مسؤولة السياسة الخارجية في الاتحاد الأوروبي كايا كالاس مناقشة فرض عقوبات على بن غفير، معتبراً أن ما جرى يمثل انتهاكاً لأبسط مبادئ حقوق الإنسان، خاصة بعد احتجاز الناشطين في المياه الدولية وتعريضهم لما وصفه بالإهانة والتحرش.
من جانبها، طالبت بولندا بمنع بن غفير من دخول أراضيها، بينما أصدرت وزارة الخارجية البريطانية بياناً شديد اللهجة أدانت فيه معاملة الناشطين، مؤكدة أن هذا السلوك ينتهك أبسط معايير الاحترام والكرامة الإنسانية، ومطالبة إسرائيل بتوضيحات حول ظروف الاحتجاز.
وتأتي هذه التطورات في وقت تواجه فيه إسرائيل انتقادات متزايدة بسبب سياساتها في غزة ولبنان، إضافة إلى تصاعد التوترات الإقليمية المرتبطة بالحرب المشتركة مع الولايات المتحدة ضد إيران.
كما دعت اليونان إسرائيل إلى الإفراج الفوري عن مواطنيها المشاركين في الأسطول، في حين أعرب رئيس المجلس الأوروبي أنطونيو كوستا عن صدمته من طريقة التعامل مع الناشطين، واصفاً ما حدث بأنه غير مقبول تماماً.
أما رئيسة الوزراء الإيطالية جورجيا ميلوني فقد طالبت باعتذار رسمي من إسرائيل، معتبرة أن ما حدث يعكس «استخفافاً كاملاً» بالمطالب الإيطالية.
وفي تركيا، أعلن وزير الخارجية هاكان فيدان إرسال طائرات لإعادة المواطنين الأتراك المشاركين في الأسطول، والذين بلغ عددهم نحو 85 شخصاً وفق وسائل إعلام محلية.
The British government summoned the Israeli chargé d'affaires in London amid a rising wave of international outrage over a video posted by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, in which he mocked pro-Gaza activists who were detained after the Israeli navy intercepted a fleet heading to the besieged territory.
The British move coincided with the Israeli authorities beginning to release hundreds of activists who participated in the attempt to break the naval blockade imposed on Gaza, in preparation for their deportation to their home countries, according to a legal organization monitoring the case of those involved in the fleet.
The video, which showed activists handcuffed and kneeling while being mocked by the far-right Israeli minister, sparked widespread condemnation from several European countries and human rights organizations.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that he asked the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, to discuss imposing sanctions on Ben Gvir, considering that what happened represents a violation of the most basic principles of human rights, especially after the detention of the activists in international waters and subjecting them to what he described as humiliation and harassment.
For its part, Poland called for preventing Ben Gvir from entering its territory, while the British Foreign Office issued a strongly worded statement condemning the treatment of the activists, asserting that this behavior violates the most basic standards of respect and human dignity, and demanding clarifications from Israel regarding the conditions of detention.
These developments come at a time when Israel is facing increasing criticism over its policies in Gaza and Lebanon, in addition to rising regional tensions related to the joint war with the United States against Iran.
Greece also called on Israel to immediately release its citizens participating in the fleet, while European Council President Antonio Costa expressed his shock at the treatment of the activists, describing what happened as completely unacceptable.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni demanded an official apology from Israel, considering that what occurred reflects a "complete disregard" for Italian demands.
In Turkey, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced the dispatch of planes to repatriate the Turkish citizens participating in the fleet, who numbered around 85 according to local media.
