شهدت مدينتا غات وتهالة جنوب ليبيا أضراراً واسعة جراء سيول مفاجئة أعقبت أمطاراً غزيرة تزامنت مع عيد الأضحى، ما أدى إلى غمر أحياء سكنية وانقطاع خدمات الاتصالات والإنترنت بعد تضرر كابل الألياف البصرية الرابط بين المدينتين.

وأعلن الهلال الأحمر الليبي تضرر 12 حياً سكنياً في تهالة وإجلاء سكانها، مع نزوح نحو 250 أسرة إلى مناطق آمنة، فيما امتدت الأضرار إلى بلدية البركت المجاورة. ورغم تراجع منسوب المياه، لا تزال الحاجات الإنسانية والإغاثية قائمة.

وفي مواجهة الأزمة، باشرت الفرق الفنية أعمال إصلاح شبكة الاتصالات، بينما وجهت الحكومة الجهات المختصة بتقديم المساعدات العاجلة، وسحب المياه الراكدة، وتعزيز الخدمات الصحية للمتضررين.

وأعادت الكارثة المطالبات بضرورة تنفيذ مشاريع دائمة لحماية المدن من السيول، عبر إنشاء سدود وشبكات تصريف حديثة للحد من الخسائر المتكررة.

The cities of Ghat and Tahala in southern Libya have witnessed extensive damage due to sudden floods that followed heavy rains coinciding with the Eid al-Adha holiday, leading to the inundation of residential neighborhoods and the disruption of communication and internet services after the fiber optic cable connecting the two cities was damaged.

The Libyan Red Crescent announced that 12 residential neighborhoods in Tahala were affected, and residents were evacuated, with around 250 families displaced to safer areas, while the damage extended to the neighboring municipality of Al-Barkat. Despite the receding water levels, humanitarian and relief needs remain.

In response to the crisis, technical teams began repairing the communication network, while the government directed the relevant authorities to provide urgent assistance, drain stagnant water, and enhance health services for those affected.

The disaster has reignited calls for the implementation of permanent projects to protect cities from floods, through the construction of dams and modern drainage networks to reduce recurring losses.
