أصدرت وزارة الخارجية البريطانية تحديثاً جديداً لإرشادات السفر إلى إيطاليا، حثّت فيه المواطنين البريطانيين على توخي الحذر عند السباحة في الشواطئ والبحيرات وأحواض السباحة خلال العطلات الصيفية، محذرة من مخاطر قد تؤدي إلى حوادث غرق أو إصابات خطيرة.
ويأتي التحذير في وقت تشهد إيطاليا إقبالاً كبيراً من السياح، خصوصاً على الوجهات الساحلية والبحيرات الشهيرة، فيما أكدت الخارجية البريطانية أن حوادث الغرق تتكرر سنوياً في البحر والبحيرات وحتى في المسابح داخل البلاد.
ودعت الوزارة العائلات إلى مراقبة الأطفال بشكل دائم أثناء وجودهم في المياه أو بالقرب منها، مشددة على ضرورة إبقائهم ضمن مسافة تسمح بالتدخل الفوري، حتى وإن كانوا يجيدون السباحة أو كان منقذون موجودين في الموقع.
كما حذرت المسافرين الراغبين في السباحة في البحيرات الشهيرة، مثل بحيرة جاردا وبحيرة كومو، من القفز مباشرة إلى المياه دون التأكد من درجة حرارتها، موضحة أن التعرض المفاجئ للمياه الباردة قد يسبب ما يُعرف بـ«صدمة الماء البارد»، وهي حالة قد تكون خطيرة حتى بالنسبة للسباحين ذوي الخبرة.
وفي ما يتعلق بالشواطئ، أوضحت الإرشادات أن بعض المناطق تشهد تيارات مائية قوية أو صخوراً مخفية أو أعماقاً ضحلة قد تؤدي إلى إصابات خطيرة أو الغرق، داعية إلى تجنب الغوص في أماكن غير معروفة أو السباحة عند مصبات الأنهار التي تصب في البحر.
وأكدت الخارجية البريطانية أهمية الالتزام بنظام الأعلام المستخدم على الشواطئ الإيطالية، مشيرة إلى أن رفع العلم الأحمر يعني حظر دخول المياه بشكل كامل، كما نصحت بالحصول على معلومات محلية إضافية عند السباحة في الشواطئ غير المراقبة أو التي تفتقر إلى المنقذين أو اللوحات الإرشادية.
وأضافت أن الأمواج قد تمتد لمسافات أكبر من المتوقع في بعض الشواطئ غير الخاضعة للرقابة، وقد تصاحبها تيارات سحب قوية تشكل خطراً على السباحين.
ويأتي هذا التحذير بالتزامن مع استمرار تطبيق عدد من القوانين المحلية في بعض الوجهات السياحية الإيطالية، مثل حظر ارتداء ملابس السباحة خارج الشواطئ والمسابح في مدن مثل سورينتو، إلى جانب قيود أخرى مطبقة في بعض المنتجعات الساحلية، إلا أن الخارجية أوضحت أن تحديثها الأخير يركز تحديداً على إجراءات السلامة المائية وسبل الوقاية من حوادث الغرق خلال موسم العطلات.

The warning comes at a time when Italy is experiencing a significant influx of tourists, particularly to coastal destinations and famous lakes, while the British Foreign Office confirmed that drowning incidents occur annually in the sea, lakes, and even in pools within the country.
The ministry called on families to constantly supervise children while they are in or near the water, emphasizing the necessity of keeping them within a distance that allows for immediate intervention, even if they are good swimmers or lifeguards are present on-site.
It also warned travelers wishing to swim in famous lakes, such as Lake Garda and Lake Como, against jumping directly into the water without checking its temperature, explaining that sudden exposure to cold water can cause what is known as "cold water shock," a condition that can be dangerous even for experienced swimmers.
Regarding beaches, the guidelines clarified that some areas experience strong currents, hidden rocks, or shallow depths that could lead to serious injuries or drowning, urging people to avoid diving in unknown places or swimming near river mouths that flow into the sea.
The British Foreign Office emphasized the importance of adhering to the flag system used on Italian beaches, noting that the raising of a red flag means a complete prohibition on entering the water. It also advised obtaining additional local information when swimming at unmonitored beaches or those lacking lifeguards or signage.
It added that waves may extend further than expected at some unmonitored beaches, and may be accompanied by strong rip currents that pose a danger to swimmers.
This warning coincides with the continued enforcement of several local laws in some Italian tourist destinations, such as the prohibition of wearing swimwear outside of beaches and pools in cities like Sorrento, along with other restrictions in certain coastal resorts. However, the Foreign Office clarified that its latest update specifically focuses on water safety measures and ways to prevent drowning incidents during the holiday season.
