فتحت الشرطة الكندية تحقيقاً في واقعة الاعتداء على امرأة مسلمة أمام طفلها البالغ من العمر سبع سنوات في مدينة مونكتون بمقاطعة نيو برونزويك، بعد تداول مقطع فيديو وثق الحادثة وأثار موجة غضب واسعة، وسط مطالبات باعتبارها جريمة كراهية مرتبطة بالإسلاموفوبيا.
وأكدت شرطة الخيالة الكندية الملكية في منطقة كودياك أنها استجابت لبلاغات عن شجار داخل موقف للسيارات في شارع ماونتن مساء السبت، مشيرة إلى أن المحققين حددوا هوية الأشخاص الذين يعتقد بتورطهم، ويواصلون جمع المعلومات لكشف ملابسات الواقعة.
وقال العريف لوك بيكار إن الشرطة تتعامل بجدية مع جميع البلاغات المتعلقة بجرائم الكراهية، مؤكداً أن «لا مكان للكراهية في مجتمعاتنا»، داعياً كل من شاهد الحادثة أو يملك معلومات أو تسجيلات مصورة إلى التعاون مع المحققين، فيما رفضت الشرطة الإفصاح عن تفاصيل إضافية، مؤكدة أن التحقيق لا يزال مستمراً.
«عودوا إلى بلدكم».. إهانات عنصرية انتهت باعتداء
وبحسب المجلس الوطني للمسلمين الكنديين، كانت الأسرة تشارك في عرض للسيارات الكلاسيكية عندما تعرضت لمضايقات من مجموعة من الأشخاص رددوا عبارات عنصرية، من بينها: «عودوا إلى بلدكم»، قبل أن يتطور الموقف إلى اعتداء جسدي على المرأة أمام طفلها.
وأظهر الفيديو مجموعة من الأشخاص يحيطون بالمرأة داخل موقف للسيارات قبل الاعتداء عليها، بينما حاول طفلها التدخل للدفاع عنها، في وقت كان زوجها ووالدها قد توجها إلى السيارة لوضع بعض الأغراض.
وقال ستيفن تشو، مسؤول الإعلام والاتصالات في المجلس، إن الأسرة قررت مغادرة المكان بعدما تصاعدت الإساءات، إلا أن مجموعة اعترضت المرأة ووجهت إليها شتائم عنصرية قبل الاعتداء عليها.
وأضاف أن الضحية أصيبت بارتجاج في الدماغ، وكدمات وتورم في الوجه والجبهة والعينين والأنف، وإصابة في الكتف الأيمن، وجرح في الأنف، إضافة إلى تحطم نظارتها الطبية، مؤكداً أن ما حدث «اعتداء عنصري يستهدف أسرة مسلمة ويحمل مؤشرات واضحة على الإسلاموفوبيا».
تحقيق في شبهة جريمة كراهية
وطالب المجلس الوطني للمسلمين الكنديين وجمعية مسلمي مونكتون بإجراء تحقيق شامل، للتحقق مما إذا كانت دوافع الكراهية تقف وراء الاعتداء.
وأكدت جمعية مسلمي مونكتون في بيان أن «لا أحد ينبغي أن يُستهدف بسبب دينه أو عرقه أو خلفيته، ولا يجوز لأي طفل أن يشهد تجربة صادمة كهذه»، معلنة تضامنها مع الضحية وأسرتها، وداعية إلى بناء مجتمع يقوم على الأمن والكرامة والاحترام المتبادل.
كما دعا المجلس المسؤولين في مقاطعات الأطلسي الكندية إلى إدانة تصاعد الإسلاموفوبيا، وتعزيز التواصل مع المجتمعات المسلمة، محذراً من تزايد جرائم الكراهية ضد المسلمين.
إدانة سياسية وانتقادات للحكومة
وأدانت عضوة الحزب الليبرالي الكندي جينيت بيتيتباس تايلور الحادثة، ووصفتها بأنها «اعتداء وحشي»، مؤكدة أن التقارير أصابتها بالصدمة بعدما تعرضت امرأة مسلمة للضرب أمام طفلها عقب مطالبتها بالعودة إلى بلدها، ما استدعى نقلها إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج.
وقالت في منشور عبر منصة «إكس»: «أنا غاضبة وأدين ما حدث دون تحفظ. جرائم الكراهية في تزايد، ولا ينبغي أن نصمت لأن الصمت يشجع من يسعون إلى تقسيم المجتمع».
وأضافت أنها ستلتقي قادة المجتمع والزعماء الدينيين وممثلي مختلف المكونات الثقافية للاستماع إلى مخاوفهم والعمل على مواجهة هذه الظاهرة، مؤكدة أن الإسلاموفوبيا وجميع أشكال الكراهية لا مكان لها في كندا.
غضب واسع.. وتحذيرات من تنامي خطاب الكراهية
وأشعلت الحادثة موجة غضب على منصات التواصل الاجتماعي، إذ رأى ناشطون ومنظمات حقوقية أن الواقعة تعكس تصاعداً مقلقاً في خطاب الكراهية والعنصرية ضد المسلمين.
وانتقدت الناشطة جوي هيندرسون ما وصفته بتنامي خطاب اليمين المتطرف، متسائلة عن غياب موقف واضح من الحكومة الكندية، فيما اعتبر الناشط سولا أن الاعتداء «يتناقض مع القيم الكندية»، قائلاً: «إذا كنت لا تستطيع المرور بجانب أم دون أن تفقد صوابك، فأنت لا تنتمي إلى هذا المكان».

"Go back to your country"... Racist insults ended in an assault
According to the National Council of Canadian Muslims, the family was participating in a classic car show when they were harassed by a group of individuals who shouted racist phrases, including: "Go back to your country," before the situation escalated into a physical assault on the woman in front of her child.
The video showed a group of people surrounding the woman in the parking lot before assaulting her, while her child attempted to intervene to defend her, at a time when her husband and father had gone to the car to put away some items.
Stephen Chow, the media and communications officer at the council, stated that the family decided to leave the area after the harassment escalated, but a group confronted the woman and hurled racist insults at her before assaulting her.
He added that the victim suffered a concussion, bruises, and swelling on her face, forehead, eyes, and nose, as well as an injury to her right shoulder, a cut on her nose, and her glasses were broken, confirming that what happened was "a racially motivated assault targeting a Muslim family and showing clear signs of Islamophobia."
Investigation into suspected hate crime
The National Council of Canadian Muslims and the Moncton Muslim Association called for a comprehensive investigation to determine whether hate motives were behind the assault.
The Moncton Muslim Association confirmed in a statement that "no one should be targeted because of their religion, race, or background, and no child should witness a traumatic experience like this," expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, and calling for the building of a community based on safety, dignity, and mutual respect.
The council also urged officials in Canada's Atlantic provinces to condemn the rise of Islamophobia and enhance communication with Muslim communities, warning of the increasing hate crimes against Muslims.
Political condemnation and criticism of the government
Canadian Liberal Party member Jenica Atwin condemned the incident, describing it as a "brutal assault," and stated that the reports shocked her after a Muslim woman was beaten in front of her child following demands for her to go back to her country, which necessitated her being taken to the hospital for treatment.
In a post on the platform "X," she said: "I am angry and condemn what happened unreservedly. Hate crimes are on the rise, and we should not remain silent because silence encourages those who seek to divide the community."
She added that she would meet with community leaders, religious leaders, and representatives of various cultural groups to listen to their concerns and work to confront this phenomenon, affirming that Islamophobia and all forms of hate have no place in Canada.
Widespread anger... and warnings of rising hate speech
The incident ignited a wave of anger on social media, with activists and human rights organizations seeing the incident as reflecting a troubling rise in hate speech and racism against Muslims.
Activist Joy Henderson criticized what she described as the rise of far-right rhetoric, questioning the lack of a clear stance from the Canadian government, while activist Sola stated that the assault "contradicts Canadian values," saying: "If you cannot walk past a mother without losing your mind, you do not belong here."
