أفادت وكالة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية البريطانية «MHRA» بإجراء تحديث واسع ومهم على تحذيرات الإدمان الخاصة بعدد كبير من الأدوية الموصوفة لعلاج الألم والقلق والأرق، عقب مراجعة أمنية شاملة نفذتها لجنة الأدوية البشرية «CHM».
وذكرت صحيفة «ديلي ميل» أن الأدوية المشمولة بهذه الإجراءات تتركز بشكل أساسي في الفئات التالية: الغابابنتينويدات «Gabapentinoids»، وفي مقدمتها الغابابنتين «Gabapentin» والبريغابالين «Pregabalin»، البنزوديازيبينات «Benzodiazepines»، مثل الديازيبام «Valium»، واللورازيبام، والتيمازيبام، وغيرها، أدوية «Z-drug»، وعلى رأسها الزوبيكلون «Zopiclone» والزولبيديم (Zolpidem).
عبارة تحذيرية صريحة
كما أكدت الوكالة البريطانية أنه سيتم إدراج عبارة تحذيرية صريحة وواضحة ضمن نشرات المعلومات الدوائية المرفقة بهذه الأدوية تنص على: «قد يسبب الإدمان والاعتماد وظهور أعراض انسحابية».
كما ستشمل النشرات المحدثة توضيحاً أدق لمفهومي الاعتماد والإدمان، وإرشادات أكثر تفصيلاً وتحسيناً حول كيفية خفض الجرعات تدريجياً بشكل آمن وصولاً إلى إيقاف الدواء، وكذلك نصائح تحث المرضى على مناقشة خطط العلاج بانتظام مع الطبيب أو الصيدلي، إضافة إلى تحذيرات واضحة بعدم مزج هذه الأدوية مع المواد الأفيونية أو الكحول، وعدم مشاركتها مع الآخرين
أرقام مثيرة للقلق في بريطانيا
وحصل نحو 4.5 مليون شخص في إنجلترا فقط على وصفات طبية للغابابنتينويدات خلال 2022 و2023، وفق بيانات هيئة الخدمات الصحية الوطنية (NHS).
وتشير التقديرات إلى أن نحو 800 ألف شخص يتناولون البريغابالين يومياً لعلاج الألم أو القلق، ويُعتقد أن نسبة كبيرة من هؤلاء تواجه صعوبة في التوقف عن الدواء بسبب تطور الاعتماد الجسدي لديهم.
وقالت كبيرة مسؤولي السلامة في وكالة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية «MHRA» الدكتورة أليسون كايف: «يمكن أن يحدث الإدمان والاعتماد لدى أي شخص يتناول هذه الأدوية، حتى عند استخدامها وفق الإرشادات الطبية».
وتابعت: «لهذا نعمل على تعزيز التحذيرات لضمان فهم المرضى والعاملين في القطاع الصحي لهذه المخاطر بشكل أوضح، ورغم ذلك، تظل هذه الأدوية علاجات فعّالة ومهمة للعديد من المرضى، على أن يتوافر لهم القدر الكافي من المعلومات لاستخدامها بأمان».
نصيحة مهمة من وكالة تنظيم الأدوية
وتنصح وكالة تنظيم الأدوية بعدم التوقف عن تناول الدواء بشكل مفاجئ دون استشارة الطبيب، إذ قد يؤدي ذلك إلى أعراض انسحابية خطيرة، كما أوصت الوكالة جميع المرضى الذين يستخدمون هذه الأدوية بضرورة مراجعة الطبيب أو الصيدلي للاطلاع على التحديثات الجديدة، ووضع الخطة العلاجية الأنسب لكل حالة.
The British Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has reported a wide and significant update to the addiction warnings for a large number of prescribed medications used to treat pain, anxiety, and insomnia, following a comprehensive safety review conducted by the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM).
The Daily Mail reported that the medications included in these measures primarily focus on the following categories: gabapentinoids, led by gabapentin and pregabalin, benzodiazepines, such as diazepam (Valium), lorazepam, temazepam, and others, as well as "Z-drugs," with zopiclone and zolpidem at the forefront.
Explicit Warning Statement
The British agency also confirmed that an explicit and clear warning statement will be included in the patient information leaflets accompanying these medications, stating: "May cause addiction and dependence and withdrawal symptoms."
The updated leaflets will also include a more precise explanation of the concepts of dependence and addiction, more detailed and improved guidance on how to safely taper off the medication, as well as advice encouraging patients to regularly discuss their treatment plans with their doctor or pharmacist, in addition to clear warnings against mixing these medications with opioids or alcohol, and not sharing them with others.
Concerning Figures in Britain
Approximately 4.5 million people in England alone received prescriptions for gabapentinoids during 2022 and 2023, according to data from the National Health Service (NHS).
Estimates suggest that around 800,000 people take pregabalin daily for pain or anxiety, and a significant proportion of these individuals are believed to struggle with stopping the medication due to the development of physical dependence.
The Chief Safety Officer at the MHRA, Dr. Alison Cave, stated: "Addiction and dependence can occur in anyone taking these medications, even when used according to medical guidelines."
She added: "That is why we are working to strengthen the warnings to ensure that patients and healthcare professionals understand these risks more clearly, and yet, these medications remain effective and important treatments for many patients, provided they have sufficient information to use them safely."
Important Advice from the Medicines Agency
The Medicines Agency advises against stopping the medication suddenly without consulting a doctor, as this may lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. The agency also recommended that all patients using these medications consult their doctor or pharmacist to review the new updates and establish the most suitable treatment plan for each case.
