أفصحت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال»، أن الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية تبحث في الوقت الراهن خيار الانسحاب العسكري الكامل من سورية، في ظل التطورات المتسارعة التي تشهدها البلاد.
ونقلت في تقرير لها عن مسؤولين أمريكيين قولهم: إن الهزيمة التي مُنيت بها قوات سورية الديمقراطية «قسد»، دفعت وزارة الحرب الأمريكية إلى إعادة تقييم جدوى المهمة العسكرية في سورية.
ووفق الصحيفة، فإن المداولات الجارية دخل إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب تتضمن سيناريوهات متعددة لخفض الوجود العسكري الأمريكي، وصولاً إلى الانسحاب التام، مع تقييم تداعيات ذلك على جهود مكافحة تنظيم داعش الإرهابي، والتوازنات الأمنية في شمال وشرق سورية، والعلاقات مع الحلفاء الإقليميين.
وأفاد التقرير بأن القرار النهائي في هذا الشأن لم يحسم بعد، وأن النقاشات لا تزال مرتبطة بتقديرات أمنية وسياسية، من بينها مستقبل التنسيق مع القوات المحلية، ومخاطر عودة التنظيمات المتطرفة، إضافة إلى حسابات أوسع تتعلق بالدور الأمريكي في الشرق الأوسط.
وحسب مسؤولين مطلعين، فإن قوات تابعة للحكومة السورية اقتربت بشكل خطر من مواقع تتمركز فيها قوات أمريكية خلال عمليات ضد الأكراد، وكشف هؤلاء أن القوات الأمريكية أسقطت طائرة مسيرة واحدة على الأقل قرب إحدى منشآتها.
وأضاف أحد المسؤولين أنه خلال فترة 24 ساعة، شنت القوات السورية هجوماً على ثكنات لقوات سورية الديمقراطية «قسد» داخل قاعدة تضم وجوداً أمريكياً.
يذكر أنه قبل عدة أيام، شرعت الولايات المتحدة في نقل نحو نحو 7 آلاف معتقل من أصل 9 آلاف إلى العراق، وسط مخاوف من احتمال فرار مقاتلين سابقين وأفراد من عائلاتهم مع تحركات القوات الحكومية للسيطرة على منشآت الاحتجاز.
The "Wall Street Journal" reported that the United States is currently considering the option of a complete military withdrawal from Syria, amid the rapid developments taking place in the country.
It quoted in its report American officials saying that the defeat suffered by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) prompted the U.S. Department of Defense to reassess the feasibility of the military mission in Syria.
According to the newspaper, the ongoing discussions within President Donald Trump's administration include multiple scenarios for reducing the U.S. military presence, leading to a complete withdrawal, while assessing the implications of that on efforts to combat the terrorist organization ISIS, the security balances in northern and eastern Syria, and relations with regional allies.
The report indicated that the final decision in this regard has not yet been made, and that discussions are still linked to security and political assessments, including the future of coordination with local forces, the risks of the return of extremist organizations, in addition to broader calculations related to the U.S. role in the Middle East.
According to informed officials, forces loyal to the Syrian government have dangerously approached positions where U.S. forces are stationed during operations against the Kurds, and these officials revealed that U.S. forces shot down at least one drone near one of their facilities.
One of the officials added that within a 24-hour period, Syrian forces launched an attack on barracks of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) inside a base that hosts U.S. presence.
It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, the United States began transferring about 7,000 detainees out of 9,000 to Iraq, amid fears of the potential escape of former fighters and their family members with the movements of government forces to take control of detention facilities.
