‏ ظلت «الطِّيرمة» من التراث السائد في منطقتي مكة والمدينة لأعوام مضت، إذ اشتهرت بها بعض الأجزاء في المنازل القديمة، غير أنها منذ عقود قليلة تلاشت هذه الكلمة على غرار الكثير من الكلمات والعبارات التي كانت سائدة ومتداولة بين الناس آنذاك، سواء كانت تلك الكلمات دارجة في اللغة الفصحى أو اللهجة الشعبية.

واشتهرت (الطِّيرمة) كونها غرفة صغيرة فوق بيت الدرج، تُستخدم لتخزين بعض الأغراض، وتستخدم أحياناً للنوم خاصة في فصل الصيف.

و(الطيرمة) هو الاسم الذي أطلقه أهل الحجاز على الموضع الصغير المسقوف الكائن فوق بيت الدرج، وهي ذات مساحة صغيرة وتستخدم في تخزين الحطب والفحم أو لتخزين مؤونة البيت أو لتجفيف التمور أو لحفظ فراش النوم من أشعة الشمس صيفاً، بما يعرف التشميس.

وذكر ابن منظور في لسان العرب: (الطَّارمةُ) بيت من خشب كالقبة وهو دخيل أعجمي معرّب هي حريف للطير نامة من الفارسية، وتعني الكوة التي يدخل منها الضوء في أعلى المنزل، والأصل فيها في الفارسية طير السماء.

وتُبنى في الدور العلوي أو فوق السطح مباشرة، وتتميز بإطلالتها وارتفاعها، مما يجعلها مكاناً جيداً للتهوية.

The "Tirma" has remained a prevalent part of the heritage in the regions of Mecca and Medina for many years, as some parts of old houses became famous for it. However, in recent decades, this word has faded away, similar to many words and phrases that were common and circulated among people at that time, whether those words were prevalent in classical Arabic or in the colloquial dialect.

The (Tirma) is known as a small room above the stair house, used for storing some items, and is sometimes used for sleeping, especially in the summer.

The (Tirma) is the name given by the people of Hijaz to the small covered space located above the stair house. It is small in size and is used for storing firewood and charcoal, for storing household supplies, for drying dates, or for keeping bedding out of the sun in the summer, a practice known as "tashmis".

Ibn Manzur mentioned in Lisan al-Arab: (Tarma) is a wooden house like a dome, which is a foreign term that has been Arabized; it is derived from the Persian word for a place where birds nest, meaning the opening that lets light into the top of the house, and its original meaning in Persian is "bird of the sky".

It is built in the upper floors or directly above the roof, and is characterized by its view and height, making it a good place for ventilation.
