أعلن مسؤول أمريكي أن جولة جديدة من المفاوضات بين واشنطن وطهران تُعقَد، يوم الخميس، سعياً إلى التوصل إلى اتفاق بشأن البرنامج النووي الإيراني.
وأفادت وسائل إعلام أمريكية بأن هذه الجولة من المفاوضات بين البلدين، وهي الثالثة، ستُعقَد كسابقتها في مدينة جنيف السويسرية.
وكان مسؤول إيراني ألمح أمس (الأحد) إلى أن طهران قدمت تنازلات جديدة بشأن برنامجها النووي بهدف التوصل إلى اتفاق، شريطة أن يشمل الاتفاق رفع العقوبات الاقتصادية والاعتراف بحقها في «تخصيب اليورانيوم» لأغراض سلمية.
وكشف أن الجانب الإيراني يدرس جدياً إرسال نصف مخزون البلاد من اليورانيوم عالي التخصيب إلى الخارج، وتخفيف تركيز النصف الآخر، وإنشاء تحالف إقليمي للتخصيب.
وأضاف أن إيران ستفعل هذا مقابل اعتراف الولايات المتحدة بحقها في «التخصيب النووي السلمي» بموجب اتفاق سيشمل أيضاً رفع العقوبات الاقتصادية.
وكان الرئيس الإيراني مسعود بزشكيان، عبر عن تفاؤل حذر، وقال في منشور على «إكس» أمس (الأحد): إن أحدث جولات المفاوضات «أسفرت عن مؤشرات مشجعة». لكنه لفت إلى استعداد طهران «لأي سيناريو محتمل».
في حين أكد المبعوث الأمريكي ستيف ويتكوف، أن الرئيس يشعر بفضول لمعرفة سبب عدم «استسلام» إيران حتى الآن وعدم موافقتها على كبح برنامجها النووي.
ورد وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي، عليه في منشور على «إكس» قائلاً: «تتساءل لماذا لا نستسلم؟ لأننا إيرانيون». وشدد في مقابلة مع شبكة سي.بي.إس على أن التوصل إلى حل دبلوماسي مع الولايات المتحدة لا يزال ممكناً.
وكانت المحادثات غير المباشرة التي جرت العام الماضي بين الجانبين لم تسفر عن أي اتفاق، ويعود ذلك في الأساس إلى الخلافات حول مطالبة الولايات المتحدة لإيران بالتخلي عن تخصيب اليورانيوم على أراضيها، وهو ما تعتبره واشنطن سبيلاً لامتلاك قنبلة نووية. في حين نفت إيران سعيها لامتلاك مثل هذه الأسلحة.
An American official announced that a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran will take place on Thursday, in an effort to reach an agreement regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
American media reported that this round of negotiations between the two countries, the third, will be held, like the previous one, in the Swiss city of Geneva.
An Iranian official hinted yesterday (Sunday) that Tehran has made new concessions regarding its nuclear program in order to reach an agreement, provided that the agreement includes lifting economic sanctions and recognizing its right to "enrich uranium" for peaceful purposes.
It was revealed that the Iranian side is seriously considering sending half of the country's stock of highly enriched uranium abroad, reducing the concentration of the other half, and establishing a regional enrichment alliance.
He added that Iran would do this in exchange for the United States recognizing its right to "peaceful nuclear enrichment" under an agreement that would also include lifting economic sanctions.
The Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian expressed cautious optimism, stating in a post on "X" yesterday (Sunday) that the latest rounds of negotiations "have resulted in encouraging signs." However, he noted Tehran's readiness for "any possible scenario."
Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that the president is curious to know why Iran has not yet "surrendered" and why it has not agreed to curb its nuclear program.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a post on "X": "You wonder why we don't surrender? Because we are Iranians." He emphasized in an interview with CBS that reaching a diplomatic solution with the United States is still possible.
The indirect talks that took place last year between the two sides did not result in any agreement, primarily due to disagreements over the U.S. demand for Iran to abandon uranium enrichment on its territory, which Washington considers a pathway to acquiring a nuclear bomb. Meanwhile, Iran has denied seeking to possess such weapons.
