فيما أعلن مكتب أبوظبي الإعلامي السيطرة على حريق اندلع في مطار أبوظبي القديم نتيجة سقوط شظايا عقب اعتراض ناجح للدفاعات الجوية ولم يسجل أي إصابات، اتهم المندوب الإماراتي لدى الأمم المتحدة، السفير محمد أبوشهاب اليوم (الأربعاء)، إيران بأنها «اختارت الهجوم على بلاده».

وقال أبو شهاب في تصريحات على هامش اجتماعات مجلس الأمن: «إيران اختارت الهجوم علينا ولا نسعى للتصعيد»، مضيفاً: «نتخذ كل الإجراءات لحماية أمننا، والدفاعات الجوية الإماراتية حيّدت الهجمات الإيرانية».

ولفت إلى أن «قيادة الإمارات أوضحت أن أولويتها هي سلامة وأمن كل فرد في البلاد»، مبيناً أن الإمارات لا ترغب في هذا الصراع، وقد عملت بكل طريقة لتجنب هذا الأمر وأيضاً كانت نرغب في عدم التصعيد ونتجه إلى الحوار».

ولفت إلى أنه «لا يوجد أي شك أننا سنتخذ كل الإجراءات والتدابير المطلوبة لحماية أمننا وسيادتنا وسيادة أراضينا وضمان أمن مواطنينا ومقيمينا تبعاً للقانون الدولي وميثاق الأمم المتحدة».

While the Abu Dhabi Media Office announced the control of a fire that broke out at the old Abu Dhabi airport due to debris falling after a successful interception by air defenses, and no injuries were reported, the UAE's ambassador to the United Nations, Mohamed Abushahab, accused Iran today (Wednesday) of "choosing to attack his country."

Abushahab stated in remarks on the sidelines of the Security Council meetings: "Iran has chosen to attack us, and we are not seeking escalation," adding: "We are taking all measures to protect our security, and the UAE's air defenses have neutralized Iranian attacks."

He pointed out that "the leadership of the UAE has made it clear that its priority is the safety and security of every individual in the country," indicating that the UAE does not desire this conflict and has worked in every way to avoid it, and also wishes to avoid escalation and move towards dialogue.

He emphasized that "there is no doubt that we will take all necessary measures and actions to protect our security, sovereignty, and the sovereignty of our lands, and to ensure the safety of our citizens and residents in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter."
