أعلن رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر عدم وجود تقييم يشير إلى استهداف إيران قاعدة دييغو غارسيا.
وقال ستارمر لصحفيين، اليوم (الإثنين)، إن حكومته تجري تقييمات باستمرار لضمان الأمن، مشدداً على أنه لا يوجد تقييم يشير إلى استهداف القاعدة بهذه الطريقة.
وأضاف أن أي محاولة لإعادة فتح مضيق هرمز تتطلب دراسة متأنية وخطة قابلة للتطبيق، لافتاً إلى أن أولويته القصوى هي حماية المصالح البريطانية وخفض التصعيد.
وكان ستارمر يرد على سؤال حول إمكانية استهداف إيران لبريطانيا بعد تقارير صدرت مطلع الأسبوع تفيد بأنها أطلقت صاروخين باليستيين على قاعدة دييغو غارسيا العسكرية الأمريكية البريطانية في المحيط الهندي.
وكان المتحدث باسم الخارجية الإيرانية إسماعيل بقائي نفى استهداف بلاده قاعدة دييغو غارسيا في المحيط الهندي بصواريخ باليستية. وأكد على منصة «إكس»، الإثنين، أن ادعاءات إسرائيل بشأن استهداف القاعدة مضللة.
من جانبه، قال الأمين العام لحلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) مارك روته إن الحلف لا يستطيع تأكيد التقييم الإسرائيلي الذي يفيد بأن الصواريخ التي أُطلقت نحو قاعدة دييغو غارسيا هي صواريخ باليستية إيرانية.
وكانت مصادر أمريكية، اتهمت (السبت)، إيران بإطلاق صاروخين باليستيين متوسطي المدى باتجاه قاعدة دييغو غارسيا المشتركة في المحيط الهندي، دون أن يصيبا القاعدة، وفقاً لصحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال».
وقال رئيس الأركان الإسرائيلي إيال زامير إن إيران استخدمت «صاروخاً باليستياً عابراً للقارات من مرحلتين بمدى 4 آلاف كيلومتر» لاستهداف القاعدة، وإن هذه الصواريخ لا تستهدف إسرائيل بل عواصم أوروبية مثل لندن وباريس وبرلين.
يذكر أن الحكومة البريطانية كانت أعلنت، الجمعة، أنها ستجيز لواشنطن استخدام قاعدتيها في دييغو غارسيا وفي فيرفورد جنوب غرب إنجلترا لضرب «مواقع الصواريخ الإيرانية والقدرات التي تُستخدم في مهاجمة سفن في مضيق هرمز».
وامتنع رئيس الحكومة كير ستارمر بداية عن السماح لواشنطن باستخدام القواعد البريطانية في هذه الحرب، قبل أن يجيزه لتنفيذ عمليات «دفاعية».
ولقي تردده انتقادات لاذعة من الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب.
وشددت لندن مراراً على أن لا أحد سيجرّ المملكة المتحدة إلى الصراع، مؤكدة عدم وجود تقييم محدد يفيد بأن الإيرانيين يستهدفون المملكة المتحدة أو أنه يمكنهم ذلك لو أرادوا.
وتعد قاعدة دييغو غارسيا في المحيط الهندي الواقعة على جزيرة تابعة لبريطانيا، قاعدة إستراتيجية بارزة تستضيف القاذفات الأمريكية والغواصات النووية ومدمرات الصواريخ الموجهة.

Starmer was responding to a question about the possibility of Iran targeting Britain after reports emerged earlier in the week that it had launched two ballistic missiles at the US-British military base in Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei denied that his country targeted the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean with ballistic missiles. He confirmed on the platform "X" on Monday that Israel's claims regarding targeting the base are misleading.
For his part, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the alliance cannot confirm the Israeli assessment that the missiles launched towards Diego Garcia are Iranian ballistic missiles.
American sources accused Iran on Saturday of launching two medium-range ballistic missiles towards the joint Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean, without hitting the base, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated that Iran used a "two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 4,000 kilometers" to target the base, and that these missiles are not aimed at Israel but at European capitals such as London, Paris, and Berlin.
It is worth noting that the British government announced on Friday that it would allow Washington to use its bases in Diego Garcia and Fairford in southwest England to strike "Iranian missile sites and capabilities used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz."
Initially, Prime Minister Keir Starmer refrained from allowing Washington to use British bases in this war before permitting it to carry out "defensive" operations.
His hesitation faced sharp criticism from US President Donald Trump.
London has repeatedly emphasized that no one will drag the United Kingdom into the conflict, asserting that there is no specific assessment indicating that the Iranians are targeting the United Kingdom or that they could do so if they wanted.
Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean, located on a British-owned island, is a prominent strategic base hosting American bombers, nuclear submarines, and guided missile destroyers.
