حذر نائب رئيس مجلس الأمن الروسي ديمتري ميدفيديف، من أن الاتحاد الأوروبي يمكن أن يتحول إلى تحالف عسكري معاد جداً لروسيا، بحيث يصبح «أسوأ من حلف شمال الأطلسي الناتو».

وكتب ميدفيديف على قناته في تطبيق «ماكس»: اليوم الجمعة، قائلا:«من الواضح أن هناك تناقضات قوية داخل الحلف، وقد تفاقمت بسبب العملية في إيران، ويفكر السياسيون الأوروبيون، وخاصة في بروكسل، بجدية في إنشاء مكون عسكري كامل داخل الاتحاد الأوروبي، لكن هذا الأمر سيغير صورة العالم».

ولفت الرئيس الروسي السابق إلى أن خطاب موسكو حول العضوية في الاتحاد الأوروبي كان، حتى الآن، متحفظاً وهادئاً فيما يتعلق بجميع الدول الجارة، مضيفاً: لكن الآن يجب أن يتغير كل شيء، الآن لم يعد الاتحاد الأوروبي اتحاداً اقتصادياً. يمكن أن يتحول بسرعة إلى تحالف عسكري معاد لروسيا، وفي بعض النواحي أسوأ من الناتو.

وشدد ميدفيديف على ضرورة تخلي موسكو عن موقفها المتسامح تجاه احتمال انضمام أوكرانيا إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي. واعتبر أنه حان الوقت للتخلي عن الموقف المتسامح إزاء سعي الدول المجاورة للانضمام إلى ما أصبح الآن تكتلاً أوروبياً عسكرياً واقتصادياً.

واستبعد انسحاب الولايات المتحدة من حلف شمال الأطلسي، لكنه رجح أن تقدم واشنطن على خطوات رمزية مثل خفض عدد القوات الأمريكية المنتشرة في دول أخرى أعضاء في الحلف. وقال إن الانقسامات الواضحة داخل الحلف يمكن أن تدفع الاتحاد الأوروبي إلى تجاوز كونه تكتلاً اقتصادياً.

وكان المتحدث باسم الكرملين دميتري بيسكوف، قال أمس الخميس: إن روسيا تواصل النظر إلى الناتو على أنه حلف يقوم بتصرفات عدائية بحق روسيا.

وقال خلال إحاطة إعلامية تعليقاً على تصريحات الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، حول إمكانية انسحاب الولايات المتحدة من الناتو: فيما يتعلق بحلف شمال الأطلسي، فهو تحالف معادٍ لنا، تحالف يعتبرنا عدواً له ويتخذ إجراءات عدائية متناسبة مع ذلك، هكذا ننظر إلى هذا الحلف.

وكان ترمب أعرب في مقابلة مع وكالة رويترز عن استيائه من حلف الناتو، مؤكداً أنه يدرس بجدية إمكانية انسحاب الولايات المتحدة من الحلف. وكشف في مقابلة مع صحيفة ديلي تلغراف أنه يفكر في إعادة النظر بمشاركة الولايات المتحدة في الناتو، نظراً لامتناع الحلف عن دعم واشنطن في الحرب مع إيران.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev warned that the European Union could turn into a military alliance that is very hostile to Russia, becoming "worse than NATO."

Medvedev wrote on his channel in the "Max" app today, Friday, saying: "It is clear that there are strong contradictions within the alliance, which have been exacerbated by the situation in Iran. European politicians, especially in Brussels, are seriously considering establishing a complete military component within the European Union, but this will change the world’s landscape."

The former Russian president pointed out that Moscow's rhetoric regarding EU membership has, so far, been reserved and calm concerning all neighboring countries, adding: "But now everything must change; the EU is no longer just an economic union. It can quickly turn into a military alliance hostile to Russia, and in some respects, worse than NATO."

Medvedev emphasized the necessity for Moscow to abandon its tolerant stance towards the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU. He considered that it is time to give up the lenient position regarding neighboring countries' aspirations to join what has now become a military and economic European bloc.

He ruled out the withdrawal of the United States from NATO but suggested that Washington might take symbolic steps such as reducing the number of American troops deployed in other member countries of the alliance. He stated that the evident divisions within the alliance could push the EU to move beyond being merely an economic bloc.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday, Thursday, that Russia continues to view NATO as an alliance that acts aggressively towards Russia.

During a media briefing commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's statements about the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO, he said: "Regarding NATO, it is an alliance hostile to us, an alliance that considers us an enemy and takes hostile actions accordingly; this is how we view this alliance."

Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with NATO in an interview with Reuters, confirming that he is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from the alliance. He revealed in an interview with the Daily Telegraph that he is thinking about reconsidering U.S. participation in NATO, given the alliance's refusal to support Washington in the war with Iran.
