تعود تفاصيل الحادثة إلى واقعة وثقها مقطع فيديو، أظهر الضحية وهي تجلس داخل القطار، قبل أن يفاجئها المتهم، الجالس خلفها، بطعنها في الرقبة باستخدام سكين جيب، من دون أي تفاعل أو احتكاك سابق، ما أدى إلى وفاتها على الفور.
وألقت السلطات الأمريكية القبض على الجاني بعد وقت قصير من الجريمة، ووجهت له تهمة القتل من الدرجة الأولى.
اعترافات صادمة واضطراب ذهني
وكان الأمريكي ديكارلوس براون المتهم بقتل اللاجئة الأوكرانية إيرينا زاروتسكا تحدث للمرة الأولى من داخل سجنه، في مكالمة هاتفية مسجلة أجرتها معه شقيقته ونشرتها صحيفة "ديلي ميل".

وعندما سألته شقيقته لماذا استهدف إيرينا تحديدا، أجاب بأن من كان يتحكم بتلك المواد هو من دفعه لمهاجمتها.
وقالت تريسي إنها زارت شقيقها مؤخرا في سجن مقاطعة مكلنبورغ وتحدثت معه وجهاً لوجه من خلف زجاج، وأكد لها حينها أنه استهدف الضحية لأنه كان يعتقد أنها "تقرأ أفكاره".
شهادة الأسرة: إخفاق في العلاج
من جهتها، أكدت شقيقة المتهم أنه كان يعاني منذ سنوات من تدهور عقلي حاد، مشيرة إلى محاولاته المتكررة للحصول على علاج طبي، لكنها كانت تنتهي بخروجه من المستشفى خلال 24 ساعة فقط.
وأضافت أنه كان يتواصل مرارًا مع الطوارئ مدعيًا وجود «شريحة إلكترونية» تتحكم في دماغه، إلا أن حالته كانت تُصنف كمشكلة طبية لا تستدعي تدخلاً أمنيًا، معتبرة أن «الجهات المختصة خذلته»، وأنه كان يشكل خطرًا على نفسه وعلى المجتمع.

The details of the incident stem from a video recording that captured the victim sitting inside the train, before being unexpectedly attacked by the accused, who was sitting behind her, stabbing her in the neck with a pocket knife, without any prior interaction or provocation, leading to her immediate death.
U.S. authorities arrested the perpetrator shortly after the crime and charged him with first-degree murder.
Shocking Confessions and Mental Disturbance
The American Dekarlos Brown, accused of killing Ukrainian refugee Irina Zarutska, spoke for the first time from his prison cell in a recorded phone call with his sister, which was published by the "Daily Mail."
The 34-year-old accused revealed his struggles with mental disorders, stating that he did not know the victim and had never spoken to her.
He claimed that he believed certain entities had implanted "materials" in his brain to control his actions, adding: "I didn't say a word to her... why would someone stab someone for no reason?"
He spoke about himself in the third person, indicating a clear cognitive disconnection, asserting that "someone" had compelled him to commit the crime.
When his sister asked him why he specifically targeted Irina, he replied that those controlling the materials were the ones who prompted him to attack her.
Tracy stated that she recently visited her brother in Mecklenburg County jail and spoke with him face-to-face through glass, and he confirmed to her that he targeted the victim because he believed she was "reading his thoughts."
Family Testimony: A Failure in Treatment
For her part, the accused's sister confirmed that he had been suffering from severe mental deterioration for years, noting his repeated attempts to seek medical treatment, which would end with him being discharged from the hospital within just 24 hours.
She added that he frequently contacted emergency services claiming there was an "electronic chip" controlling his brain, but his condition was classified as a medical issue that did not warrant security intervention, asserting that "the relevant authorities let him down," and that he posed a danger to himself and to society.

In contrast, the family of the victim Irina Zarutska mourned their daughter with poignant words, describing her as a "talented artist and vibrant spirit," who was studying art and restoration in Kyiv, dreaming of working as a veterinary assistant, alongside her passion for caring for animals.
