كشف تقرير حصري نشره موقع «أكسيوس»، أن كبار المسؤولين الديمقراطيين الذين عملوا على إعداد تقييم سري خاص بانتخابات عام 2024، خلصوا إلى أن مرشحة الحزب الديمقراطي كامالا هاريس فقدت دعما كبيرا بسبب نهج إدارة الرئيس السابق جو بايدن تجاه الحرب في قطاع غزة.

دعم الإدارة لإسرائيل

وأفاد التقرير بأن نتائج أبحاث «اللجنة الوطنية الديمقراطية» التي أعدت التقرير الخاص بأخطاء الحزب التي حدثت في عام 2024، ظلت طي الكتمان لأن قادة الحزب قرروا العام الماضي إخفاءها عن الجمهور.

وحسب التقرير، فإن قرار الاحتفاظ بقرار اللجنة الذي ظل طي الكتمان يعكس مدى الخطورة التي قد يترتب عليها نشر مثل هذه النتائج داخل الحزب وخارجه، خاصة في ظل الانقسام الحاد بين الديمقراطيين التقدميين والمعتدلين بشأن الموقف من إسرائيل.

وينتقد الجناح اليساري «التقدمي» بشدة، تصرفات إسرائيل ضد الفلسطينيين في غزة، كما ينتقد كثيرون منهم الدعم الأمريكي الثابت لها، بينما سعت هاريس خلال حملتها القصيرة لتحقيق توازن بين دعم إسرائيل والدعوة لوقف إطلاق النار.

وذكر تقرير "أكسيوس" أن مساعدي اللجنة الوطنية الديمقراطية الذين يعدون التقرير أجروا محادثات مغلقة مع مجموعة مؤيدة للفلسطينيين بشأن النزاع، إذ أكد نشطاء من مشروع سياسات (معهد تفاهم الشرق الأوسط) أن دعم الإدارة لإسرائيل كان عاملاً في الخسارة.

الإضرار بمكانة الحزب

وأوضح الناشطون أن هذا الدعم أدى لتبديد تأييد بعض الشباب والتقدميين، وقال المتحدث باسم المشروع، إن اللجنة شاركتهم بيانات وجدت أن تلك السياسة كانت «خسارة صافية» في انتخابات 2024.

وأكد مسؤولان رفيعان آخران في المنظمة المؤيدة للفلسطينيين أن اللجنة الوطنية الديمقراطية توصلت إلى هذا الاستنتاج، كما تحقق موقع «أكسيوس» بشكل مستقل من أن المسؤولين يعتقدون أن القضية أضرت بمكانة الحزب.

ويتهم «مشروع سياسات معهد تفاهم الشرق الأوسط» حاليا، وفقا لـ"أكسيوس"، اللجنة الوطنية الديمقراطية بحجب تقريرها جزئيا بسبب النتائج المتعلقة بإسرائيل، وهو ما نفته المتحدثة باسم اللجنة كيندال ويتمر، مؤكدة أن عدم النشر يهدف لعدم تشتيت الجهود الانتخابية.

الشيك المفتوح لنتنياهو

وأكدت اللجنة الوطنية الديمقراطية أنها تحدثت مع مئات الجهات كجزء من تحليلها، لكنها لم تقدم تفاصيل إضافية، بينما طالب بنداس بضرورة مشاركة النتائج على نطاق واسع داخل الحزب قبل الانتخابات النصفية الحاسمة.

وقال مساعد لهاريس إنها صرحت خلال جولة لكتابها «107 أيام» بأنه كان ينبغي على الإدارة فعل المزيد، مشيرة إلى ضرورة التحدث علنا عن انتقاد طريقة تنفيذ رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو للحرب.

وذكرت هاريس، في كتابها، أن تراجع شعبية بايدن، الذي عزته جزئيا إلى ما وصفته بـ«شيكه المفتوح» لنتنياهو، أضر بها في عام 2024، مؤكدة أنها ناشدت بايدن سرا لإظهار مزيد من التعاطف مع المدنيين.

ورغم هذه المناشدات السرية، فقد رفضت هاريس خلال حملتها الانتخابية الانفصال علنا عن سياسة بايدن تجاه إسرائيل، وهو ما تسبب في النهاية بخسارة أصوات كتل انتخابية مهمة كانت محسوبة على الحزب الديمقراطي.

An exclusive report published by Axios revealed that senior Democratic officials who worked on preparing a confidential assessment regarding the 2024 elections concluded that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris lost significant support due to former President Joe Biden's administration's approach to the war in Gaza.

The Administration's Support for Israel

The report stated that the findings of the Democratic National Committee's research, which prepared the report on the party's mistakes that occurred in 2024, remained confidential because party leaders decided last year to keep them from the public.

According to the report, the decision to keep the committee's findings confidential reflects the seriousness of the potential consequences of publishing such results both within and outside the party, especially given the sharp divide between progressive and moderate Democrats regarding the stance on Israel.

The left-wing "progressive" wing strongly criticizes Israel's actions against Palestinians in Gaza, and many of them also criticize the unwavering American support for it, while Harris sought during her brief campaign to balance support for Israel with calls for a ceasefire.

The Axios report mentioned that aides to the Democratic National Committee who are preparing the report held closed discussions with a pro-Palestinian group regarding the conflict, where activists from the Middle East Understanding Institute's Policy Project confirmed that the administration's support for Israel was a factor in the loss.

Harming the Party's Standing

Activists explained that this support led to the alienation of some young people and progressives, and the spokesperson for the project stated that the committee shared findings indicating that this policy was a "net loss" in the 2024 elections.

Two other senior officials in the pro-Palestinian organization confirmed that the Democratic National Committee reached this conclusion, and Axios independently verified that officials believe the issue harmed the party's standing.

According to Axios, the Middle East Understanding Institute's Policy Project currently accuses the Democratic National Committee of partially withholding its report due to the findings related to Israel, which committee spokesperson Kendall Witmer denied, asserting that the decision not to publish was aimed at not distracting from electoral efforts.

Netanyahu's Blank Check

The Democratic National Committee confirmed that it spoke with hundreds of entities as part of its analysis, but did not provide additional details, while Bendas called for the results to be widely shared within the party before the critical midterm elections.

An aide to Harris stated that she remarked during a tour for her book "107 Days" that the administration should have done more, pointing out the necessity of publicly criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's conduct of the war.

Harris mentioned in her book that Biden's declining popularity, which she attributed in part to what she described as his "blank check" to Netanyahu, harmed her in 2024, affirming that she privately urged Biden to show more empathy for civilians.

Despite these private appeals, Harris publicly refused during her campaign to distance herself from Biden's policy toward Israel, which ultimately led to the loss of votes from significant electoral blocs that were considered part of the Democratic Party.
